Why is there a cult following for this film? I don't understand it. Its taken me years to actually watch it. I've tried to watch in in the past but always fell asleep or got sidetracked because I was bored.

I don't get it, can someone explain?
 

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

It's an allegory about the power of greed and what powerlessness can lead to. It is a remarkable film from which you can learn quite a bit about the human condition.

MacAvoy, give it another shot but instead of framing it as if you're watching a Die Hard flick watch it as a learning experience.

Mamet is one of my fvcking heroes.
