Queensland, Australia is equivalent to the 1950s deep South of the USA in many ways. Regular army barracks are stationed around the deserted north and west of the country because the more developed states (i.e. vic, new south and sa) just won't put up with them any more. There aren't many girls with looks, brains, degrees or careers left up there with the notable exception of the gold coast, and there are regularly beheadings, gang rape, bestiality offences, etc. The reservists, SAS and technical specialists, navy, airforce and heavy munitions testing are based closer to livable cities such as Melbourne and Adelaide.

I think you're respect is a little bit generous and misguided. What makes you think they are laying down their lives for you... Their motives are quite varied and broad, such as getting a better education, nothing better to do, trying to gain more confidence, enhancing their chances of getting women, joining the profession of arms to get a bit of prestige & action, travelling, money, family ties to military, making their dad proud. blah blah blah.... Her sister, who is 2 years older, thought the same thing, and she is a dental assistant in germany.
I'm not going to trivalize people who have the balls to enlist in the army. regardless of why they did it, they did it.. and that's more action that I will take.
Also they were all mostly gay and in violent denial. Maybe it's different in the US.

by the way i believe that only a very small percentage of soldier can claim to say that they genuinely lay their own life for their country to protect it.
i am going to check out the reserves, but that is more like boys scout. maybe i should just go back to motherland (philippines) and join their army instead. over there it is plain black and white, hardly any grey areas to question.
im filipino, and i am more hesitant when a girl says she only goes for filipinos. its the same thing as backbreaker says.
my good friend met this absolutely w*nker of a soldier, full of sh*t. she argued with me about soldiers aren't bad. what she doesnt know is that she was the last resort after this certain solider had his share of hors in between the first time they did sh*t and the last time. shes now tampered with its a bit hard to hang out with her knowing that. i dunno why but i find it hard to hang out with chick friends when ive realised their just naive, thick and no respect for themselves
