If you are going out with someone and find out they had manic depression, what would you do?

Why?

(background: serious relationship but admittedly you would not want the mother of your kids with that problem (dont know much about it but it shows in massive good side/bad side.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

heh, it depends on how you found out...

Like any mental illness, manic depression comes in "shades of gray." The criteria is fairly broad, so she may have a mild case and very few "episodes." Having this knowledge is important, since this is something that will likely be with her for life, but I wouldn't rush to make a decision until you've seen (or heard about) how it affects her.

One thing is certain, though: Don't feel obligated to stay with her out of pity. Rest assured that there's little you can do to "fix" her, and, moreover, it simply isn't your job.

I'd get rid of her.

Life is too short to fvck around with someone whose mental illness can be passed to your children as well negatively effect you.

Infection: Avoid the Unhappy and Unlucky

You can die from someone else’s misery – emotional states are as infectious as disease. You may feel you are helping the drowning man but you are only precipitating your own disaster. The unfortunate sometimes draw misfortune on themselves; they will also draw it on you. Associate with the happy and fortunate instead.

Dear Here to Learn,
Don't do it fellah....It is London to a brick you will really regret it if you do,by all means be a friend to talk issues through with, she could do with that, but inevitably down the Line she will self destruct and if you are not careful, take you down with her...It is a sad reality of life that you must let her go in an emotional sense then maybe come back to offer help when like Humpty Dumpty she falls off the wall.

You need to post a LOT more detail about this issue and your situation ,especially if you are referring to a woman who you are considering marrying or recruiting to be the mother of your child.

Is her diagnosis confirmed or just speculation on your part.
Bipolar disorder is a serious condition but there is treatment available.
