Hi guys, I've been reading this forum for awhile but never really felt the need to post before. I recently broke up after a 9 month relationship and have been pretty down about it. On top of that I'm currently unemployed, which is a bit of an obstacle when it comes to dating.

Anyways, I've been talking to this one girl, we went out once for drinks last week (we split the bill). We had a decent time and agreed to do it again soon. So I call her up over the weekend asking if she's free for dinner or drinks on Tuesday. She texts me back that she would love to hang out but can't afford to go out because she's on a budget. This kinda threw me because she didnt mention any financial problems the first time. My initial thought was she's testing to see if I'll offer to pay for her (I would, but I wasn't gonna say that just to convince her). I told her we could find something to do that requires no money and I'd call her later.

What do you guys make of this? Is she fishing for free dates? low-interest? should I call her or wait?

Why ask us?

You already are halfway through with the answer yourself.
Just tell her you want to take a walk through a park or go window shopping.

And if you are unemployed, why are you inviting people out to drinks/dinner when you, yourself are having financial issues? Do you always expect to split the bill with her? Or are you looking for her to pay?

I mean, she DID split the first bill. If she were completely a gold digger, wouldn't you have paid the first one altogether?

Shouldn't you be focusing more on getting a job as well?

Finally... again, just give her an idea of something cost-effective you two can do, something free and if she says YES, then you have your answer. If she says she'd rather not, even if it's relatively free, then you have your answer.

This is one of two things:

1. She's being legit and she really doesn't have any money.
2. She's throwing a sh!t test at you to test you.

In reality it doesn't matter what the response is, because either way you shouldn't be paying. Do what Kailex said.
