Our fvcked up society has reversed the roles completely. In our defense, some equality was needed. However, the primal urges are still there within us, most just choose to conditioned out of them. I doubt betas even existed back in those days. Survival of the fittest, and they would be killed.

Women did a lot of work in an agricultural community, so paying their parents when you take them away to be your wife was compensation for the loss of labor.

There was a lot more work to allocate, resources to allocate, and leadership needed to run it all. Before that, humans probably traveled in clans, and the alpha males took what they wanted, although that is just a guess. Game back then was like this: the biggest and strongest men would grab all the best resources and the smaller, lesser men had to settle for whatever scraps he left for them. Now we have marriage laws and the welfare state to try to even things out for beta males and women so they can feel like they rule the way the biggest, strongest men always did. I saw a movie years ago with this exact scenario and the male bent the female over and fvcked her right there in front of the rest of the tribe. So is that how it really went down? Well if ur an alpha back then and there are no stronger males or authority figures with weapons to stop you, whats holding you back? seems plausible....
