What are your thoughts on the subject?
My buddy calls me up today asking what I am doing on thanksgiving eve. I guess there's a 22 yr old chick who just moved to town that just started working with him who doesn't know anyone and wants to go out, and he wants me to meet her.
He says she's pretty cute, but I've noticed that when it's a male friend trying to hook me up, most of the time the chick isn't that attractive (despite what he claims), and most of the time nothing comes of it.
Conversely, if it's a female hooking me up, most of the time the chick is better looking, and there is a lot better chance of something coming out of it.
Why do you think this is? Why would a woman be more likely to set you up with someone who is attractive? Why would it be more likely that something comes of it?
Hmmmm.....
As for the looks thing, I can't offer much of an explanation. Maybe if it's a guy he's just looking to hook you up for sex, and a woman is more likely to be thinking relationship when she introduces you to someone. This would make sense since I would say that most men would be more likely to have sex with a woman they aren't extremely attracted to than to get involved in a relationship with a less attractive woman. And women are VERY conscious of the fact that a man's main criteria in choosing a mate is looks, thus they would be less likely to subject a friend to "rejection" by ensuring that the person she is setting you up with is reasonably attractive.
When it comes to the reason why it would be more likely for there to be a "connection", it might have something to do with the "attractiveness factor", but I would guess that it has more to do with social proof.
You just can't underestimate the power of having another chick talk you up. If it's a guy cheerleading you, a woman will still be suspect and will still have comfort and value issues you will have to address. But when it's a woman who is doing the selling, you not only get the benefit of pre-established comfort and value, but also the element of competition if there is any sort of a sexual vibe between you and the girl who is doing the matchmaking.
