On the way home I spotted a cute shy artsy chick on a train station. I had no opportunity to chat her up so once on the train I stood next to her. She was shyly eyeing me via reflection in the train windows, so was I with a little smirk on my face. A couple sitting by the window right in front of us got off at the next stop, so I took the seat by the window, leaving one more next to me empty. The most obvious thing for her would be to sit next to me right? Well, she didn't. Still glancing at me and me at her I expected her to sit next to me. Again she shyed away. Then some unattractive asian chick took the opportunity and sat next to me. The shy chick moved away from where she was standing a bit as if she gave up hope of trying to get me. A few stops passed and while getting out I handed her a small piece of paper with my e-mail address on it, she shyly smiled and I got out of the train.

I might be onto something with that e-mail technique. I made initiative in the time critical situation. Now if she actually responds that would be interesting. Feel free to comment on any of this.

My initial response is to question what makes you say that you didn't have any opportunity to talk to her. From what you've said, it sounds like you had nothing but opportunities, instead choosing an impersonal method of passive pick-up which completely eliminates any chance of rejection (unless you see her laugh and throw the paper you handed her away). I'd say man up and talk to a girl next time. From the sounds of it, this chick might have really been into you - you never know her story, she could have just broken up with her b/f and been on the rebound, just waiting for you to ask her what's going on in her life that night... A lot of girls are attracted to confidence, as many of the articles on here will attest to - smiling at a girl a few times and never approaching her except for one time to make a handoff of an email address doesn't exactly present you as being the most confident of fellows. Maybe this is something you can improve on... Just my .02

I hear what you're saying. I still have problems approaching chicks with lots of people around within close proximity. It's a slow process. I chose the e-mail approach because I didn't feel like I could've made a meaningful conversation in a limited time like that. Another un-motivating factor is that I've NEVER seen anyone do open approaches on the train or the station.

If that's true, it sounds like she won't be expecting it and you'll be able to get some genuine responses out of her. Perhaps you should make take a day one weekend to ride around and talk to different people - odds are you won't ever see them again, so even if you accidently urinate on yourself, you won't have to hang your head in shame for too long. Anyway, with the email: at least you did that much. It's definitely a step up from doing nothing...
