"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

So I'm chilling at the beach and I see these two hotties coming so I'm scoping them out. They sit down about 20 feet from me. I read for about 20 minutes more then I put my book down and go up and approach. They had there back to me, but I tried to approach at an angle. They were drawing.

So I say "Excuse me" and they act all startled (yeah right *****es I know you saw me coming). They looked stuck up so I wasn't surprised. I ask "Are you from Maryland?" (we're in Cali). She says, no she isn't from there, making little eye contact and obviously uninterested. BTW I tried approaching HB8 cause Style says to approach the girl you aren't interested in. Anyways I know this is a lost cause, but I ask what she's drawing...she mumbles something and I just say "it looks nice" and leave.

I don't know if there was any way these girls were gonna talk to me at all. Maybe I'd have to open with a neg?? I'm gonna have to practice new openers on the HB8+s.

"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

I don't know for sure either. Big balls though. Respect for that. I think they say in that kind of situation to try something like the "jealous g/f" opener? You know that one right? It gets them talking to you. And then maybe a neg a little bit, and yeah like you said pay more attention to the one that's a little less good looking. Style says you've got to do the whole demonstration of value thing, or value proof, or whatever he called it in the book. So I don't know if you have anything down for that. But you could do something funny in that kind of situation, like I was thinking if I was you I might have done jealous g/f, then once we're talking , at least to one of them, I might have asked for her pad and said I wanted to sketch her, and start drawing. And while you're doing it say sh*t like it's been your life goal to be a portraitist, etc. Meanwhile, unless you really can draw, you're drawing I'm sure a pretty crappy "portrait" of her, even make it a little deliberately funny looking you know? And then hand it back to her. And then when she laughs at it or whatever act fake-pissed for a minute, and say something like maybe, "I'm an Impressionist," or something , you know, make something up. But yeah I definitely think you could have worked it using that pad a little bit. It was like a prop that was there for you. Anyway, that's just my thoughts on it. You'd have to get one of the mega macks here to really answer this properly for you. ~D

Okay, you went with a simple opener, and got little response. Luckily you had a prop to comment on (her drawing), and you were right to use it. I think where you went wrong was the weak 'it looks nice,' but sometimes inspiration fails, I know.

Off the top of my head, I might have gone in this direction, always looking to elicit values, make a connection and keep things relaxed and fun.

"Do you draw a lot? What do you like to draw? I love drawing, don't you? It's great that people can express themselves in so many ways, don't you think? Who taught you to draw?"

I try to find a point of agreement as soon as possible, you want her nodding and smiling, and the target is unlikely to argue with sentiments like those.

Then perhaps a neg, and her artistic effort is perfect material. Ask to have a look at the picture - note, if you'd tried this before establishing a connection might have been less likely.

If she won't give you it, say 'Is it that bad? I won't laugh promise. (Authoritively) C'mon."

If that gets you the pic, keep up the authority angle. You are judging her - perfect! Stretch out this process (even if its plainly terrible/awesome), jkeep a poker face and let her squirm as she awaits your judgement. Make her beg to tell her what you think.

Then tell her it sucks.

Then tell her, nah it's pretty good! But what's going on with this fellas leg? etc

Plenty of ways to go from there, and plenty of ways it could crash and burn. Well done for apprroaching though.
