El Stud, I always give you props for approaching. Here is what I would do:
1. Since their freshmenm introduce yourself. Get their name. I met so many freshmen last year (have not started school quite yet) and still keep in good touch with them. Freshman are so easy to game, all you gotta do is intorduce yourself man. And duh, of course you talk about the past with history, I think they alrdy knew that. Maybe you can throw in a funny story of what happened when you took that class...I mean it doesn't seem like your being social enough and your convos are 30 seconds long. When I hold a conversation with a new person or not, I can keep it going and ask some questions about herself. I've gotten very good with girls and got a few numbers along the way approaching and I do is way less than you.
2. Second approach was not a horrible one. You asked a few questions, and made her talk about herself. Like I said, ask some more questions, have her talk about herself. Talk and show some more social skills here...
3. "Hey, say something to me..." Come on man, I would never want someone opening like that to me. I would introduce yourself. All the people on here seem to try to find that "magical opener" when I introduce myself and it WORKS. I am also assuming you do not know her, so take that into consideration. If I reckon, your cold approaches NEVER worked, so I would either work on those or not use them. Keep it up and I usually like to hear your approaches and give my $0.02.

You gotta let your intentions kinda be known man. If a girl does not even think you like her a little, why would she waste her time? I mean, asking questions shows you have good social skills and once you start racking in these girls at school, you will get social proof. I mean, I broke out of my shell my junior year last year. I got some dates for the first time, date requests, prom, gf now, girls still wanting me...I am not a kb jockey (not that you called me one but from my post count, and I may not be the most successful like some of these guys) but I know what to do in certain situations. I mean, your confidence is high. Show some interest to show "Hey, I do care about you somewhat, but you aren't the only one..."Any other questions?
Yeah, but in my early days I used to always just ask girls questions and it never worked because I was showing too much interest. Now I tend to make statements more than questions. I know this kid who's like that, all he does is continiously ask people questions and it comes off as more of an interview, than actually getting to know them. And? You can still practice on Freshman girls, doesn't necessarily mean you're attracted to them or anything, you're just practicing. Plus the Freshman are too young, that would be a nasty f*ck and I'm not even sure it's legal though it probably is(I've known seniors from past years who've dated Freshmen). If a Freshman girl looks good though, I will go for it.
