I started using protein for the first time (allthewhey) and i'm really having severe gastrointestinal problems. Since i am very busy and i don't have time to cook meals high in protein, i figured i would be a good candidate for protein drinks.

Do you guys who ingest protein drinks experience upset stomach?

You should not be getting all your protein from shakes! In fact, it should only be a supplement to your regular diet, where you should get all your necessary protein.

Some people don't take well to the liquid protein either. When I first started my shakes I felt rumbling and churning in my stomach.

If it's giving you problems, stop or reduce usage.

Get your protein from meals... I just drink my whey isolate after a workout and maybe a scoop on off days.

Also try milk instead of water.

It goes away after a couple of times. Try drinking slower as semag says and split it up so you don't get like 4 scoops in three hours.

Some people get irritable bowel syndrome or whatever it's called from whey - in rare cases this is because of a milk/dairy allergy but in most it's a reaction to the sweeteners/flavourings used in the whey.

Try a different brand or go unflavoured, see if there's a difference.

How many times a day to take a shake?? It should only be after workouts or maybe during breakfast. Like everyone else said above, get your protein from food such as eggs, turkey and tuna which are the highest forms of protein after milk. Tuna and turkey are very easy to eat since they take no preperation, eggs take 2 minutes to fry.

what kind of protein is that, concentrate or isolate.

if its concentrate, its **** protein and will not digest as eay as isolate which causes problems. or its jsut **** all together.

i get the same thing becaus ei cannot afford good protein when i take it in large amounts (3-5 scoops at once) 3x daily.

How much is that per day? Like 300g?

Woah. And I thought only me and semag pounded the protein ..

Of course, I hope you're getting at least that much from red meat too. ;)

well each scoop is 21g and i only take 5 at night when i do that with milk.

yeah about 5-6 hundred grams of protein in a day in total when football isnt on and im on a super serious bulk. right now im going for about 300 because i dont want to be worried about a sick stomach and i want to lean out a bit during the season.

Fair enough, remember to drink plenty of water to help your body process all that lovely protein. Try to get in a litre of water with every meal if you can..

Results, yes results! I'm already big w/o protein, so i'm sure the added protein is going to make me bigger! I'm not trying to look like some fat football player.

You know what you could try doing is sipping the shake throughout your workout.

Perhaps after each set you take a decent sized gulp for example.

Start slow and work your way up. Your body probably isn't used to that much protein at once. When I started I had the same problem. I started slow and built my way up to the recommended does. For ex. a recommended dose is 4 scoops for 500ml, so I started out with 2 scoops and 250ml of water. I also had to drink a lot of water in the next hour or two after taking it (it made me thirsty).

Hope this helps.
