I'm spending the next two months focusing on my current project. This project, if successful will allow me to leave my current entry level job and push my small company from a side business to a full time endevor. I've hired my first sales rep and I'm interviewing my second tomorrow. Sales reps remind me of women (which they are). Firstly they are attracted to me by my style and what I can offer them ($$$). Next they are excited about the project, followed by them wanting to know entirely too much about the inner workings of my operation. It's my job to keep them on task, motivated and satisfied.
I've worked with enough sales reps to know the wrong ones can be gossipy little bytches. Never tell them more than they need to know. Hell, I've learned a lot about my competitors by befriending their sales reps.
I also keep my hand. They work for me, not the other way around. A friend of mine told me that with reps you always have to have the upper hand, they have to seek your approval and you have to be insanely confident and never show weakness. Listen to their input but make all of your decisions yourself and never let them force you into acting as they are always operating from their own self interest. Sound familiar?
It's going to be a busy few months ahead. See you guys around.
