"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

I am 23 and Ive been seeing this girl (20 years old) for about 3 months now. We met in school and she seemed really cool at first. She is a VERY nice person but I have been getting this clingy vibe lately which drives me nuts. I figured it was because its the holiday season and because Christmas calls for the whole family coming together, but now I wonder.
She wanted me to come over for Christmas Day dinner with her family which I didnt have a problem with, but my family already had plans to go to my uncle's house so that didnt work out. I told her to come over on the 24th for dinner which she did and we had a good time with my mom, sister, her boyfriend, and my aunt.
We went out after christmas twice, but she seems like shes up my ass every 2 minutes when Im not with her. Always calling my phone and contacting me on AIM. I dont remember girls being like this but shes my first "relationship" in about 2 years (kept deploying with the Army and had little time for anything) so im partially blaming myself for not being "sensitive" enough. Moving on, because of this behavior I suggested that she have a "girls night out" on new years eve. No harm, no foul and I had a great time with my buddies and she had a good time with "the girls".
New years day I guess is a big deal in her family or just a day her family likes to get together so since I didnt make it over on Christmas, I went over to her Grandparent's house on new years day. The family seems cool and I guess she is the oldest grand daughter because all her cousins were 8th and 9th graders. I got the usual questions from the family "whats your job, what do you want to do after school, Iraq/afghanistan questions etc". Nothing crazy here. Her mom's brother tried to embarass her a little by telling me stuff like "you know she hasnt had a boy friend in over a year, we were starting to worry about her. I was hoping she wasnt going to turn into a lesbo. " I think that was kind of innapropriate to say to me period, especially that I just met the guy. Its also totally uncool to neg on your niece in front of her boyfriend. I know that wouldnt fly in my family.
Anyway the kicker comes in when we were sitting there eating dessert. I get a piece of cake and a mug of tea. Her uncle again opens his mouth and made some dumb comparison of me to an asian guy because I drank tea and didnt put milk or sugar in it. I forget the specifics but sticking with his behavior it was not funny at all and he was the only one laughing at his joke. Jen fires back at him "leave my future HUSBAND alone"
Woah! Husband? That scared the **** out of me and my face turned red. Normally I wouldnt think anything of it but the clingy behavior and this comment makes me worry a bit. Its been like 3 months not 3 years and there sure as hell is no ring on anyones finger here nor has it been discussed (nor will it be discussed)
I slept on it and I think I may be over reacting but after reviewing the facts I am not so sure.
Whats your opinion?

LOL, she knows you were insecure. She just made your uncle uncomfortable, and gave you a nice **** test... real nice one.

She obviousy has a family who can make jokes, how was the rest of the night after that? Fun and games I hope.

It was her uncle, not mine. Those comments he made about her seemed more on the malicious side than joking but I just met the guy and dont know his sense of humor. The rest of the night was ok, we played dominoes and me and Jen kicked some ass.
I guess I was raised a tight ass (made worse by Uncle Same) and mightve been too serious instead loosening up and firing back at the uncle. I didnt talk to Jen about this and dont think I will. I am not going to ditch her or anything but this seemed odd. The test makes perfect sense considering the comments made earlier in the day.

Well if the jokes by the Uncle didn't bother her then they shouldn't bother you. You really have no idea what these people's personalities are only having met them once so don't worry about it.

Ignore what women say - they don't even know what they say half the time so why should you care? Judge how things are going by her actions.

If she wanted you there then she likes you. If she was happy at the end of the night then her Uncle didn't bother her.

If you feel like she is smothering you with attention then tone it down - ie. don't be so quick to respond to her calling/messaging.
