"You Can't Argue a Woman Into Liking You"

You made your case like a lawyer. Stable job. Good guy. Ready for something real. All true. All irrelevant.

She weighed your points, nodded along, felt nothing — then fell hard for some tattooed bartender with a motorcycle and a gambling problem.

Logic is where attraction goes to die. The "22 Rules" work a level deeper, on the subconscious switches that decide within minutes whether you register as a MAN or as part of the furniture.

Stop presenting evidence. Start flipping switches.

I've just arrived home, and I'm not the happiest camper. I thought two huge nights out in a row would be the perfect antidote to forget about all the family bullsh1t that is currently going on. But I feel like I've lost ground.

Last night I got drunk at a Uni bar night and had such a crap night it was worthy of a rant. I'll spare you the details though.

Tonight promised to bring me back into form. I was meeting up with two girls I met while in Fiji and one or two of their friends. One of the chicks I would have scored with at the time if not for her stupid borefriend back home. I found out that she had said, "I wish I didn't have a boyfriend right now"

A couple of weeks ago she gave my MSN to her friend who proceeded to take the initiative to email me and start a 3way conversation. The chat went perfectly. They were bored in a university computer lab until I came along and used some flirty C+F. She was obviously trying to set us up and it seemed to be working. She even SMSed me the next day saying, "We want you to come online again and entertain us". Of course I didn't.

Tonight was also the night I planned to break my karaoke virginity. I've wanted to do this a long time now, but have always made some excuse. I needed something to force me to put my balls on the line and differentiate me from the masses. Doing it in the presence of a large group of girls is better than signing to my guy friends. Also, tonight I drove. I'm completely pissed off with alcohol after last night.

When I first saw the girls, the one I nearly seduced in Fiji looked quite impressive. By looking at holiday photos I had to rate her a 6, but now she was a definite HB7.5 (don't you hate how so many chicks lose points on photos?). Problem is we soon met 3 other of her friends. That means there were 7 girls and me. I felt like some poofter on a girl's night out! The girl I chatted to on MSN was there and she was an HB7. Three were definite UGs.

We enter and straight away four of the girls (not HB7) down a shot. It's not long before they are wasted (HB7.5 in particular, we kept kinoing each other and I sooooo wanted to bone her). Initially my C+F was there but not flowing like it usually is. I made fun of her for being alcoholic and said the barman was ignoring her because she'd had too much to drink. (I had to signal the barman for her in the end!)

Unfortunately, HB7 was EXTREMELY quiet. She'd barely even talk to me and even then gave next to zero eye contact. In a group of three conversation, her HB6 friend completely took over. I spoke to the HB6 for a while and she was nice and friendly but HB7 seemed to completely freeze me out. It was almost rude...I had no idea what I did wrong for her to act so different towards me compared to when online. I didn't have any hairs coming out my nose or anything...

I told the girls I wanted to sing and the HB6 seemed unbelieving that I was actually going to do it. HB7 had no comment. We looked through the book and I made jokes about doing songs like "It's Raining Men" and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." HB7 barely gave a reaction and I wondered why I was even wasting my time.

All the songs were Sh1t, with a capital S. I like ballsy rock but the songlist was made for pop fanatics. I thought Boys Of Summer might be a good classic that I can do but it wasn't on there. I settled for Jet's "Are you Gonna Be My Girl?" even though I've never sung it, but unfortunately it was already done. The ONLY other song I knew well enough was Green Day's "Time of Your Life". It's a bit of a ballad and too slow for my liking. I had to choose it....my mind was already made up to do karaoke and NOTHING was going to stop me.

While waiting for my turn other guys got up and were WOEFUL. They sung crowd favourites though, so everyone joined in a had a good time. This made me feel a bit better. It's not how well you sing, it's the fact that you are giving it a shot that counts.

I finally got up on stage, and stone cold sober it became obvious it was the wrong time of the night for a ballad. People weren't hugging in circles like they do at closing time when Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer" comes on. I wan't the least bit nervous though. Stupid me missed the first line because I couldn't even hear the music properly. After a questionable start I settled into the song and thought I did an OK job. I've definitely sung better before but i was hitting most of the notes. Also as tends to happen in a noisy room I was signing too loud which can ruin a ballad. The crowd just didin't like the song...especially during the extended instrumental it kinda died. If only I could have belted out "Basket Case" or "Hitchin a Ride" people could judge if I was worthy or not.

When I left the stage I just became another anonymous clubber. No guy recognised me as the one who sang Time of Your Life, and I didn't receive one shred of EC from the females. I went back to my group of 4 girls (the three UGs were luckily elsewhere) and they barely even reacted. I laughed it off and said it was all in fun, that I won't quit my day job and that they have to do it now too. But HB6 and HB7 (who were sober) seemed to has a LESSER opinion of me now, if that was even possible. My friend HB7.5 was really cool though and was telling me how annoying it is when random guys pinch her arse. I said, "Would you get angry if I grab your arse?" *pinch* She slapped me on the chest :) No chance of me getting with her though.

I sat down near HB6 and HB7 to see if I could chat but they pretty much froze me out. They were looking through the song book and laughing amongst each other about certain songs with no intention of singing any. Never mind that I'd already used that line of humour  I went back the others and we sang the last few songs in a big circle. The b1tches left in a hurry and the others wanted to go to another pub to drink more.

Out on the street, HB7.5 was saying to her UG friend (who actually picked up) that guys should carry business cards with photos so when you wake up in the morning you can tell if they're worth calling. Geez I really am getting the sense about how shallow and picky women are these days in my city.

She then says her and her friends standards go WAY down when they're drunk. I said, "Well I must be looking pretty damn good now! You liked me sober!" She laughed which probably meant it was true.

I drove home alone. I had lots of female social proof, mainly with a girl who was getting attention from guys. But it didn't get me sh1t all. I also put my balls out on the line and sung karaoke but it didn't get me sh1t. Also I spent my time in the club not worrying about "picking up" or being on the lookout for possible approaches. Nothing gained. I did however speak to 2 other girls at one point but didn't follow up enough.

I must have fallen into a huge hole. I can't understand why genuine success seems so far away for me at this stage.

A 17yo smoker with a fake ID (ie little slvt) flaked on me, a flirty HB9 with few friends at swing dancing class stopped coming after 2 lessons, a cool ticket checker at the movies never got back to me after we joked around for about 10 mins, all the hot chicks at work are taken...the list goes on and on.

Ahh well I think I just need to read my signature again.

Here's the translation: I don't feel anything. Right now. With you.

Watch what happens when a man triggers actual attraction. The busy career, the recent breakup, the "not in a place to date" — all of it evaporates instantly. The same woman who was guarding her freedom is suddenly free every night.

I settled for Jet's "Are you Gonna Be My Girl?" even though I've never sung it, but unfortunately it was already done.
All I gotta say is you were definately ballsy for wanting to try that one. I can fvcking nail that one when I go out to Karaoke, but I need one hell of a good warmup to hit all the notes. It's not an easy song to do.

When I left the stage I just became another anonymous clubber.
You sang only one song, and a really fvcking boring one at that. I think "Time of your life" is the worst fvcking Green Day song ever.

Practice will get you places if you wanna impress people. Try some different songs and find what works with your voice. It's all trial and error.

I also put my balls out on the line and sung karaoke but it didn't get me sh1t.
Even if you can't sing worth a damn, just go up there to have some fun. If you go up on stage, sound like 5hit and come down, you've at least proven that you have the confidence to do it. Not everyone has the ba11s to go up on stage and risk making an ass of themselves. If you were nervous as 5hit up on stage, keep doing it. The nervousness will eventually subside and you'll find yourself incredibly comfortable and confident up on stage. That's when it really shines, even if you sound like 5hit.

The first time you do karaoke by yourself is rough, and it's natural to be nervous. This happens to be the main hobby of my entire family. We have our own karaoke system at home, over 1000 songs and a set up to make our own CDs of us singing.

IF this is something a person wants to get into doing I would strongly recommend getting your own system (Coconuts, Radio Shack, Walmart, etc. sell them for less than $100 in most cases). There are literally thousands of songs you can buy for no more than any other CD and you can practice at home. Then when you go out to sing, you can bring your own songs if you want AND you already know the songs you pick really well. If a guy is good at karaoke, women DO notice and it works almost as well as being the singer in a band. Girls love that stuff. So...if you have a decent voice this is something you can use in your favor...and it's fun once you're comfortable with it.

Fair dos for getting up doing karoake mate, takes some balls in front of a whole club, especially sober.
I get the impression you were doing it just to get the birds to notice you though rather than just getting up there and having a laugh. I reckon its better to do these sort of things cos you want to first and foremost, then if the birds come flocking afterwards thats a bonus.
Also, if i was going out with a large group of girls like that, i'd have brought a mate or 2 along as well, i reckon you can work off each other if you know what i mean, and if the birds you're with are being b!tches, you don't have to hang around with them.

It all depends on what CDs you buy. You can get the ones at Wal-mart that, in my opinion, are crap. Just like normal CDs, you'll end up buying a CD for one or two songs. If you want something better that has more songs that you know, you're gonna pay double for the CD.

"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

Actually, I buy CDs at Best Buy, Coconuts, KMart, WalMart and I bought the SuperCore set on Ebay. You can also order CDs online where you choose the songs you want on the CD. I've paid around $16 for double CD sets with like 40 songs, all well known songs that either I or one of my kids sing. The only problem I run into at this point is that a lot of the time I already have a lot of the songs that are on CDs with songs that I want and don't have. But we have plenty of songs to keep us happy, too.

Try going to an actual music store that specializes in Karaoke. You'll find a much better selection, but the prices are higher. IMO, the best Karaoke CDs are made by Sound Choice.

Unfortunately, I live in a very rural area and there are no such stores anywhere near me. I do have a few of the Sound Choice CDs...got them at Coconuts. My favorites are the SuperCore 20 disk set I got. The song quality is very good and there is a really good variety. I've actually managed to compile a song list that is superior and more current than any of the local KJs. I've thought about getting a pro system and trying to start my own business doing this...but haven't done it so far.

The best karaoke performance I ever saw a guy do was Styx's "Come Sail Away" in the style of Cartman from South Park. He sounded JUST like him and the whole crowd went crazy. Funniest thing I ever heard...

GodsGift: I may have made it sound otherwise but I did karaoke for my own reasons and because I love singing. I just thought it might have a desired side-effect, that's all.

And I did consider Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls but I might have been booed off the stage.....should I? :D

Well, at least you tried. It required guts to do this.

They can talk all they want, they didn't have the balls to go up there, you did.

Keep your chin up man.

Duke,
Kareoke night is one of the easiest nights to pick up on other girls. Heres two things that usually gets me phone numbers:

-Write down on a sheet of paper, "Will you go home with me?" Then leave a check mark for "Yes", "No" and "Maybe". This usually will get a few laughs if the girl has a good sense of humor

-If a girl is looking at the book just walk up to her and say" Let me pick out a song for you." Or "Hey lets sing a duet together" Then pick a fun song like Summer Nights from Grease or something like that.

I don't know about you but I am a pretty good singer and can hold my own so I don't mind getting up on stage with a chick and belting one out. Hope this helps and good luck!

no worries about sucking at it.

when i was 19, i went on a cruise to hawaii. there were some fine mexican girls diggin me.

so i decided to do a karaoke of sir mixalot. got one fat girl and other ug to even dance for me while i was giving my lame ass wigga offbeat rhymes.

the two sisters that were into me, laughed their ass off and by the end of the cruise on was digging me completely and isolated me on a deck in the middle of the night.

me being an AFC at the time, and being high on some Maui Wowie sh!t i didnt do anything with her, but play with her belly ring

now i should go post this in the biggest afc moves thread...

wonder if the signs of desperation is what kept the women from wanting him?

That was my first thought. He's kicking himself pretty hard.

Look up "kill the desperation". Classic.

Thanks guys, next week is the last karaoke night at this venue so my friends and I will go and we'll see what happens this time.

Plus I'll be singing every word at the green day concert the day before (can't believe my mum scored me a ticket!!!! :))

comminback: you're partly right with that one. I battle with this problem on and off all the time. Karaoke night was approached negatively because the day before completely sucked. Every chick I spoke to was an absolute b1tch. Still I don't think I acted as desperate as I sometimes used to. It just began to tick over in my mind on the drive home....you know how it is.

Right now I'm on a total high though. At a party on Saturday I made out with an insanely slutty but really hot drink chick after I saw her kissing another girl and went up to "investigate". (Already spoke to her beforehand though). Then tonight I flirted bigtime with two girls at work and had them stifling laughter on the phones to clients. I think I ebb and flow more than most but I really have to stay postiive when the chips are down

Tell me about it!

But you non-Aussies are lucky you don't have to put up with home grown "classic" drivel like Johnny Farnham's "Your the Voice" and Shannon Noll.
