Fencing you say? Thats just for those stupid nerds who play D&D right? That is what a lot of people think of when they think of the type of people who fence. But as with anything else, stereotypes are always wrong.

Fencing is not only an alternative way to stay fit, its also an alternative way of meeting people. One of the main differences of fencing from other sports is that, the older you get, the better you actually get at it. Along with joining the fencing club at my campus this fall ive also started a weekly workout routine three mornings a week. It is also one of those things that people find interesting when you bring into a conversation. Now, i wouldnt suggest bringing up this sort of thing at a party lol, but if you're the type of person that goes for the "sophisticated" or "artsy" type of girl, it makes for great conversation.

I would be very interested to hear if there are any other fencers out there. And if you know nothing about fencing, i suggest you look for a local fencing club in your area just for the hell of it. Who knows, you might just like it.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

actually... I fence myself... only in the asian flavor... kendo... :D

much more combative and violent than Euro style.. although before the advent of electronic scoring, I hear saber fencing was brutal!! full of shouts and flying flichets (sp?) I tried saber at a summer camp where I taught trapeze and i fought the fencing instructor and as you prob know.. Euro fencing is about speed and holding the sword lightly and being very "floaty" but very fast... well... in foil he killed me... everytime on the upper arm... my motions were too open...

but man... when he handed me that saber.. I attacked with such ferocity that I knocked the saber out of his hands 3 or 4 times and I also dominated him spchycologicly (sp?) so much that he was afraid to come at me so he would only thrust... I just parried hard and flipped my wrist and wacked him across the facemask... lol... good times.. good times... :D

but yes I definitly recommend fencing, Asian or Euro, to anyone with a love of swords.. very challenging and also a great way to meet chicks... many fit and athletic women fence epee or foil and are very, very good.

Best,

Jin

I fence also. Foil is my preference.
It is a great sport and you do meet all kinds of people. One thing I like about fencing is that anyone can do it. Body size and strength don't matter as much as other sports.

I've been fencing for the last three years, and I really enjoy it. It's definitely not for wimps. I'm only taking foil fencing right now, but some of my fellow fencers are also trying epee and sabre. In order to maintain myself in shape for my fencing classes, I practice fencing drills on my own and with other fencers, and I also play soccer regularly.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Fencing really helps to build up your agility, i prefer foil, which i have done for around 1 and a half now. Personally i have benefited alot from it since taking it up.

An AWSOME way to get some excercise, if you like swords.
