External Hard Drives

I'm using an external hard drive now for file sharing.

Occasionally I leave it on overnight. Is there any limit to how long you should leave one of these on?

I guess my concern is in external hard drives, they might not cool down as well adn I'm worried about a crash.

Anybody know? I know this isn't the computer geek forum but there are alot of technically savvy people on here. Thanks.
