Exploding Comet

I just read this article about a comet that exploded and just became very bright -- http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071103/ap_on_sc/brighter_comet

In the article it says that the comet has grown to be bigger than the planet jupiter... but isnt Jupiter HUGE?! I'm wondering if the article meant to say that the comet appeared as large as jupiter to the observer.

A cloud of gas the size of jupiter suddenly appearing in our solar system is a pretty big deal imo. Is this even possible or is it just a misunderstanding?
