Dusty Rhodes - Passes Away

He's dead at 69, not sure if you guys are a huge pro wrestling (or rasslin) fan, but I am and have been since about August of 1990 when I was 6 years old. I remember that month because I watched my first "rasslin" pay per view with Hulk Hogan on it and Ultimate Warrior was WWF Champion at the time. It was also this pay per view when I met Dusty Rhodes.

Dusty Rhodes talked hard about middle class values, being a common man and building the American Dream. I always enjoyed Big Dust.

But death always gives me perspective, as I'm 31 and hoping to see 85, but so many people are dying before they even see the age of 70. The way things are going, by the time I'm 70 they might just be allowing us to collect Social Security, if we collect anything at ALL.

I'm always focused on work, working out, work, working out, rinse/wash/repeat. I throw in some dates here and there, but women are so low on my priority list it's like they aren't even there. I'm OBSESSED with my financial, career and fitness goals.

But I've been finding that I haven't really taken the time to just, live a little. That is, get off a plan, go out and just do whatever the hell comes to my mind. Everything I do today and have been doing, is always tied to a goal or a plan.

I guess what I'm trying to say is guys, make sure you keep your self-improvement focus and plans in place....but don't forget to LIVE while you are still young and can LIVE. Because there will come a time when you are old and unhealthy which makes living difficult, and there will be a time when you are laying under the grass and can't LIVE at all.

I use to be a big pro-wrestling fan as a kid back in the day when it was IMO better. Dusty Rhodes wasn't in the territory where and when I watched wrestling. But I remember back in Dusty's heyday from magazines he would always cut and be all bloody in matches.

The territory I watched was called Mid-South wrestling and only people over age 30 and living in the Oklahoma, Louisiana, midsouth area would remember it. They had some well known wrestlers though. The main ones were Ted Dibiase and Hacksaw Jim Duggan feuding with Junkyard Dog. JYD lost a loser leaves town for 90 days match to Dibiase and soon after a masked wrestler named Stagger Lee came back who everyone suspected was JYD. That's where my username originates from and not from the real Stagger Lee historical person.

Midsouth had many other big names back then come through. King Kong Bundy, Andre Giant for a short time, Rick Flair vs Ted Dibiase, Tony Atlas, Butch Reed, Kerry Von Erich for one match and others. But few wrestlers from the WWF/WWE. I liked Rowdy Roddy Piper but didn't really like the WWF as much as Midsouth and stopped watching pro wrestling in the 90s after moving back up north.

Yeah I heard of Mid-South later on down the line, even though back then (early 90's) I was all about WWF because Hulk Hogan was on there lol. I remember back then when Hulk Hogan would lose a match, everybody would be crying real tears lol. I didn't even start to watch WCW until Hulk Hogan went there in 1994.

BTW, great to see you back Stagger . I didn't think those bans were justified, but that's neither here nor there anymore.

Dusty wasn't much to look at, but he had charisma and was one of the best mic workers in the history of the business.

I always liked the heels. They were more interesting and entertaining than the babyfaces most people liked. Some great heels:

There's just never going to personalities like back in the day again. Wrestling has gotten too gay, PC and cartoonish.

Dusty Rhodes was one of the giants of the pro wrestling industry, there's no doubt about that. Some may not realize that, since his best days were behind him by the time he went to the WWE. There was a time when there was more than one promotion that mattered. RIP, Dusty.

Funny you talk about working out, because one of the reasons I used to watch wrestling was that I found it helped motivate me with my weight lifting, because so many of the performers promoted fitness. They helped inspire me to change from a skinny, fairly weak dude to a strong man not to be trifled with.

Also, keep up with the financial and career goals. I'm sure you won't regret it because there will come a time when it will pay off, big time. But you're right, take a little time to live once in a while.

When it came to cutting a promo there was Dusty Rhodes and there was everybody else. Nobody could entertain like him.

When my brother briefly dallianced with the world of pro-Wrestling he used to study Dusty's work for hours and tried to model himself after him. He eventually met him years later and said he was a class act all the way.
