I know this is the most depressing thread title ever but I need to get it off my chest, haha.

Every day when I see the news, I see international events, what the media chooses to report (i.e. blatant propaganda), the things the moronic masses lap up as the truth, the things typical people value (looks, money, not much else) and I often feel like everything is heading straight down the toilet and everyone seems totally oblivious.

Just this week we have what appears to be Russia using a prohibited, incredibly nasty poison on an ex-spy in the UK. If this is true, it's practically an act of war to use a weapon like that in another country.

Every major superpower now has nuclear weapons capable of giving you fatal third degree burns 30-40 MILES AWAY from the point of impact. And that's just one f*cking bomb, let alone a whole salvo dropping. Just re-read that sentence and let it sink in how utterly horrifying that is.

Someone drops a nuke on New York City and you can be burned to death with your whole family 30 miles away. Now imagine 100 or 1000 nukes are coming down (1000 nukes is not even 1/7th of Russia's nuke stockpile by the way), it's pretty much a metaphor for Death itself. Combine it with food supply disruption, radiation poisoning, environmental damage and I can tell you now, absolutely everyone outside bunkers would die.

And yet, despite that, a superpower is going around using nerve poisons in another nation's territory...it just seems insane to me, and a clear symptom that humanity is just f*cked because we seem to have this natural, irrational violent tendency that ignores logic.

Combine it with the general ignorance and idiocy of the public and the new trend of politicians from all backgrounds outright LYING and just talking absolute s*** with no penalty or response, and I reckon we have less than a hundred years before our species wipes itself off the planet.

No, I'm aware the nuclear deterrent is necessary (sadly).

The point is, it was a deterrent in the Fifties, when the bombs were much less powerful. Nukes have now evolved to the point that they're so destructive we'd literally extinguish almost all life on the planet (aside from insects) if someone hits the button. Nuclear War was survivable (if catastrophic) if it had happened in the Cold War, these days if it kicks off it's not so much a deterrent as a "destroy Earth" button.

And countries (Russia) boast of having this power.

Also I've also been starting to adapt my definition of "tyrant" over the years. Almost every major power continues to cement that power through what you can argue is unethical means. The US is currently bombing six countries, but is officially not at war with anyone...these are shadow wars, and the morality is very dubious.

The US and Russia in particular fight proxy wars all around the globe against each other, I imagine China does this as well.

Just look at Syria: the only reason the US dislikes Assad is because he doesn't give them what they want, and the only reason Russia likes him is because he doesn't help the Americans. Neither country cares about Assad's tyranny or human rights abuses on any meaningful level (both nations fund some groups that are arguably even worse than him). It's just a giant d*ck measuring contest for control of the region.

Now, with China's push for its One Belt One Road initiative, where Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe will be linked by railways, pathogens will spread even quicker due to increased trade and traffic along these routes. Also new bacteria have been discovered in China that are resistant to all antibiotics. Combine this with droughts, famine and climate change and I believe the human population is due for a devasting hit very soon.

Every 50 years came a major war.

Now nothing happened since WW2 (and the 1919 Spanish flu). I believe like you... nature is building up something big.

I think humans will last another century but I could see an all out civil war in the US happening before then; Red Team vs. Blue Team:
The Blue Team will be the feminists, leftists, welfare sucking, lazy, illegit, 'facts be dammed' people who live off the Government or have jobs where they don't do sh|t and don't want to do a god dammed thing to contribute to society. At least not in a way that productive for anything other than nurturing the emotions of their own kind.. The Red Team will be your logical, factual, sensible, traditional, mostly male dominated population who are tired of working like fvcking dogs, being cornholed in the legal system, and pulling the weight for the people who think they are too good and entitled to do their fair share.

I notice the separation between red and blue mostly at work. At my day job you clearly have 40% (red) of the people doing 90% of the legit work. The other 60% (blue) do the minimum they have to which is nothing most of the time. And they drain the life out of the 40% who are doing legit things and actually have pride and integrity about their work. The worst part is when there is a problem, management is also blue and will always side with their own kind. After the war and things get straightened out, the reds will run the show and if the blues don't pitch in it will go back to how it used to be, they get fired, and they don't eat.... Just like it should be.

You are probably right. If you can tell me of a place were 90+% of the people are what I described above as the Red Team, I might just have to give it a visit. Cultures in various areas of the USA vary to some degree as far as percentages of what I call Blue vs Red. But overall there is still too much Blue and that's what's fvcking everything up..

I do believe we are in an economic and cultural war in the US between red vs blue. I believe the reds will eventually win because conservatism is grounded in reason, logic and practicality whereas leftwing liberalism is based on irrational emotion, censorship of opposing views, and idealistic fantasies...

Economically, California ( a blue state) is actually more red than blue because some of the biggest defense contracters are here: Boeing, Raytheon, L-3, Lockheed, ITT etc...

The new GOP tax plan is in effect a form of ecomonic warfare because it caps the SALT deductions which will have the biggest impact in states with high property values like CA, NY, CT, etc... these are blue states.... What Trump is doing is discouraging people from moving to CA (or encouraging them to move out of CA) and thus reducing the electoral votes and political influence of CA.

I've had a morbid curiosity with post-apocalyptic stuff ever since i first watched Mad Max though. Tensions have been much worse than they are now.

I tend to agree with you. People have been thinking the world was going to end ever since I was born. One thing after the other. Like you say, people seem to have a morbid fascination with the idea. Funny thing is, about the time you start to think you're safe, that's the time it's all going to blow.

I've read When the Wind Blows, it was a comic book/graphic novel. I didn't realize it had been adapted to film until you mentioned it.

here was another 80s movie, Testament, that had a similar effect on me. It was a very low budget post nuclear war movie, about people in the aftermath dying of radiation. There was no background music, no sound of cars, no planes, it was all deathly quiet throughout. At one point, they realize the situation is hopeless and use up some precious battery power to play a Beatles song and dance to it, All My Loving. It's an uptempo song, but it's in a minor key, and since it's the only music you hear after the bombs drop, it comes across as very sad and poignant.

It doesn't matter if one side is more capable of winning. Even if one side is better armed, we're all going to be affected by it regardless.

It's best to get your 5hit in order and be prepared because it's pretty damn obvious that SOMETHING is going to happen. If you've got a stockpile of money or are able to be self-sufficient, you're going to make it through the 5hit storm.
