"Do you want kids?"

Last weekend I was talking to a woman in her early thirties and she asked me if I wanted to have kids. I've noticed that a lot of women who are 30+ will ask this question almost immediately. Most of the time, they don't, but I do. This usually comes after I tell them my age.

What happened: I said, "Yeah, but not yet." She replied, "Wait, what? You're almost 40! Why not yet?"

I don't remember how I answered, but I tried to shrug it off. I know I was visibly uncomfortable. She asked for my number later, so it must not have been too much of a problem.

My real answer: I only recently got myself in better shape and am making more money, so I haven't had nearly as many dating options until now. I want to date her but obviously that disqualifies her from marriage.

I don't know how I should have answered. Does it even matter?

Just answer truthfully. Your mindset is off though. You're wondering how you 'should have answered.' Be who you are. Speak from the heart, and don't worry how someone else might feel about something you say or do.

Why be truthful? I don't want kids ever, but I'm willing to lie about it for a short-term relationship.
