Pineapples use to be a social call for wealth. I think it's ingrained in us to want to show off who is the more alpha to attract females. We're still humans in the end. If women disappeared, would the drive of men dry up? My opinion is that not entirely. If we knew we wouldnt be able to have sex with women every again, we would at least try to spend the last few years of our civilization trying to either solve the problem, find the one remaining woman, or progress some big project out of a last ditch effort of inspiration before the extinction of the human race.

So in a sense, men buying cool cars are often because they want said cool car and it just so happens to also align with what women want. You think us men would be buying a bug beetle if bug beetles were the hot thing? What we would do is have one just for show and the other main car be an actual sports car or other similar luxury vehicle. Thus, men buy nice cars for their own benefit. If I'm dishing out 100K for a car, I better enjoy using it myself.
