This is a phenomena that goes back decadesGrew up in the Bible Belt, the place is riddled with poverty and is a joke. People think life ends at 22 and never bother to develop themselves after that.
Christianity's Manhood Problem: An Introduction
Attend a Christian church service anywhere in the world this Sunday and take a look around at who’s sitting in the seats. What will you see? Almost certainly, more women than men.
And is oddly unique to Christianity, though somewhat less pronounced in The Eastern Orthodox branch. Here in The US at least, one doesn't find a Jewish or Muslim equivalent to The Bible Belt or trailer park, and while the explanations for this are no doubt complicated, the philosophical underpinnings of the later two have never been easy to sneer off as "passive"
Thus, they're(in some respects, anyway)more compatible with continuing to develop oneself... Ain't surprising that Jewish and Muslim men still continue to enjoy high rates of upward mobility here in The US, while this has been bottoming out among WASPs
