Do you guys get cholesterol check up regularly? I regularly get test for cholesterol level and monitor my diet to maintain healthy cholesterol level. Cholesterol is produce by the body for making of variety of hormones. Excess cholesterol leads to hardening of arteries which cause cardiac arrest. I notice that many men live a really unhealthy lifestyle such as heavy smoking, consumption of strong liquor, and eat foods contain high fatty contents.
I ride my bike to keep muscle in shape and maintain steady level of cholesterol. I once had very low cholesterol at 2.5 mmol/L . That's metric system in Canada. I don't know the US imperial measurement for cholesterol. My current level is at 3.79 mmol/Litre of blood.

I have my blood pressure checked a couple times a year (since it's free :p ). My latest was 116/64, so I'm confident my cholestoral is low also (also considering that I can't think of ANYONE in my family who's had a heart attack).

Just because cholesterol is found in atheromas doesn't mean that it is their cause. 'Hardening of the arteries' occurs when the lining of the artery is damaged, (this is supported by the high concentration of white blood cells found in/around atheromas...indicating an immune response) most likely by high blood pressure. So it's your blood pressure you should be worried about, not cholesterol.

If you want to read about cholesterol in more detail I recommend http://www.theomnivore.com .
