Discontent Towards Boomers

What positive & negative contributions do think they (GI Generation) contributed

Positives

1. Fighting in World War II and contributing to a winning war effort. This was their greatest contribution.
2. Practicing Judeo-Christians closer to the letter of the law. Throughout their lives, a larger percentage of GI Generation members were attending the weekly services of some Judeo-Christian religion.
3. GI Generation politicians did help navigate the US through the Cold War and prevent World War III from occurring somewhere between the 1950s-end of the 1980s.
4. Their traditionalist world views did keep some traditional gender roles in place longer.

Negatives:

1. Their parenting job with their Baby Boomer children
2. Suburbanization
3. Failing to recognize and adapt to changing social conditions, including birth control, Second Wave Feminism, no fault divorce, and many other things. The Silents led a lot of these things, but the early half of the Boomer generation exploded them.
4. GI Generation politicians were key contributors to increasing USA's debt in the 1960s-1980s
5. GI Generation politicians failed to handle Mexican/Latin American geopolitical problems. In Mexico, the Mexican Revolution of the 1910s and the rise of PRI authoritarianism starting in 1929 created the desire for Mexicans to cross the border legally and illegally into the United States. Perhaps items 4 and 5 were a consequence of the Cold War taking up a lot of time and effort.
6. Racism: I think there was less anti-Black racism from GI Generation Whites as compared to preceding generations, but it was still a factor.
7. The lack of recognition of mental health conditions, including their own PTSD experiences from World War II.

Here's why there's discontent towards Boomers....

Boomers still control most of the wealth in the USA.

In Q3 2023, 55+ individuals controlled 72.8% of wealth in USA. In Q3 1993, 55+ individuals controlled 56.2% of wealth. In Q3 2003, 55+ individuals controlled 58.6% of wealth. In Q3 2003, most Boomers were between 40-54 years old.

In Q3 2023, 55+ people were mainly Boomers, with the tail end being the oldest members of Gen X and 78+ year olds being a part of The Silent Generation.

The baby boomer generation owns 72% of America's wealth, Q3 data shows, mostly thanks to strong stock investment rewards and rising valuation in home ownership.
