I was wondering what everyone's opinions are. Yeah women are women, no matter what their style is, what they're into, etc., but does anyone notice a difference between the metal, the goth, the emo, the punk, the giudette, the prep, and the rap chick, as far as their tolerance of AFC behavior? I've never seen it brought up before.

Good question!

Yeah, that's a damn good question and as I have quite a few friends who are in one scene or another I've been struggling with this issue for a while now.

Anyone have any ideas?

I dunno, I'm a metal guy to the bone (been into the genre since the late 1990's) so far as my musical tastes go, but aside from my long hair and the occasional band shirt, I don't really 'wear the uniform'. I tend to dress more causal (prep if you like), dress shirts, slacks, and whatnot. I've never really met a girl at a rock show before, they seem to be extremely unreceptive, and of the 5% of the people that actually are girls, maybe 5% of them are actually decent looking. Besides, I'm more into the preppie girl type, I guess you'd call it. I tend to end up with the non-stereotype girls in the end, and they are generally upfront about what they appreciate in men.

Yeah, I've always wondered why this kind of thing isn't brought up before.

I live in a fairly small college-type city. Very tree-huggy and alternative. Girls here are generally pretty self-actuated and "feminist", and tend not to be that open on the street. It's hard to make eye contact. But I love it, because I'm a left-wing intellectual neo-commie at heart and these kinds of girls turn my crank... and they like me.

Now, I was in another small city this weekend, a party town beside a lake. Went out Friday and quickly noticed the difference between the two places. I was surrounded by skinny fake blondes in short skirts and high heels, yapping away on their cell-phones on their way to some rap/R&B club. The guys were all "Chachis" with massive muscles in tight polos and spiky hair. A real ugly attitude prevailed all around... a lot of yelling.

Luckily for me I found the town's one alternative-y older bar and had a great frickin' time. But the point is that places are wildly different from each other.

My experience based on "type"?

goth - awesome, great. very sexually agressive, generally pretty smart too. willing to put up with AFC stuff because gender roles are pretty mixed up in that community... though I'd call it a bit more "alternative" now.

emo - even better. VERY smart, don't mind going after you if they think you're cute. sexually active. cons-not the most well-groomed girls in the world.

bar star - the blonde/heel/skirt chick. yuck. usually 20, because when they're 25 they've completely lost their body and are totally depressed. major sh*t tests, very immature sexually... will randomly kiss some other girl not because they want to but because they think guys will like it. Like nice cars, big muscles, no brain.

metal - no experience except that from high school. too gruff for me, always grunting out and swearing like a sailor. Nasty hair, too. Before you complain... I was a metalhead back in the heyday of metallica/slayer/anthrax/megadeth. I was there.

nerd - if you can find a cute one, and it does happen, great. Usually very open and willing to experience whatever life you can expose to them. Not a lot of sexual knowledge but can be trained! con - can be depressed and/or anxious, LTR with at your own risk.

Of course, the best girls are those who don't apply to any one category... they take from every culture they can use. I myself am kind of like this, and I think they like that, too.

Hence the term dirthead, but not all metalheads lack haircare and hygene skills... actually, having meandered a few of the subsets myself, I've seen plenty of altrena-kids and tons of goth guys with as much, if not more, godawful haircare. I'm more of a Chuck Shuldiner, John Petrucci type... more sophisticated and far better presented:

Glad to see someone addressing these issues at last!

Realsmoothie wrote "...because I'm a left-wing intellectual neo-commie at heart...".

Really? Well, excellent, me too. Nice to meet another comrade on the board.

I wonder though, I've been an activist for a while now and am totally down with feminism and all that...yet, I've found that more than a few of the women in these circles (if they are the same as the ones you describe) to have way too many issues and to be pains in the ass when it comes to relationships.

I think I can say that without sounding hypocritcal in that, although I'm aware that gender roles are primarily (although not totally) socially constructed, we unfortunately live in that world and have to deal with people 'as we find them'. Guess what I'm saying is that although its not necessarily natural for women to play 'the game' the way they do...if you want to get laid, have a successfull LTR etc then you also have to learn the rules and play the game.

Which is why, I've decided to try and not date women in that scene and go for more traditional, fun lovin' types.

;)

Let me tell you what's really funny from my perspective; do you think that you will always be a part of your current social scene? How many 38 y.o. Goths do you think there are? How many Emo guys will still be Emo after they get married? I was a rock star myself in another life (i.e. late 80's - early 90's) until all of that became less important than ensuring my own (and my family's) success. Even the most ardent feminist will run into the wall of reality once they leave the comfort of their Women's Studies classes and enter the real world.

In high school I can remember thinking how life-or-death important social circles were, only to realize in my early 20's that this was adolescent stupidity. If you want to dress up and play Goth or Emo for a weekend, please do, it's diversions like this that keep us sane, but understand that come Monday morning we're all making a living and we're all subject to what life demands of us.

Same question.

Yeah, you're probably right Rollo in the long term BUTmy question was...while we are DJing we'll probably be dipping into those 'scene' pools to fish out some hot 20-something. And so my question is...are there different approaches to those women or are DJ principles basically transferableacross 'scenes'?

I thought we were DJing...regardless if we are married or not. DJing should be a sense of self-worth. NEVER stop that.

So?

Sorry but going to have to re-open this thread...

I still don't think my question has been answered and its hard to believe its not an important one in that there's a hell of a lot of interesting and hot women in their 20s into various 'scenes', whatever they may be.

Anyway, need help with this one...went to an art exhibition opening tonight (guys, you must go to these, free booze and food and so many women!) and was confronted by a huge throng of people and a virtual avalanche of hot, alternative, artistic type women in their mid-20s to mid-30s...and yet, despite three fairly blatant IOI's did not approach due to ...well, culture clash (which is what my post has been about)...I'm not particularly into art and know only the basics that a Liberal Arts degree would give you. So, I felt I had nothing to say to these girls!

Question: is there a legitimate problem here or am I just freezing up and not approaching for no good reason?

:nervous:

Would appreciate you guys views on this one as I plan on going to heaps more of these openings ...there are some many hot grungy babes there!

All I know is beware of 40-20's, i.e., 40-year old women who act 20. I've dated my share of those and no longer, no way.

Women wonder why men date younger? Sheesh, dumb question. I have a choice of dating a 40-20, or a 25 to 30? Take the 25-30 who has a reason to act that age and has a better body and attitude than the 40-20.

Not sure on the goths and granolas, I'd prefer neither ... but stay away from the 40-20's!

Well, fellow commie...

my experience at art shows and the like is that pretentious behaviour is the norm. I was at one recently in a very small gallery, maybe the size of a one bedroom apartment. Packed with young women, most of them the photography students whose work was on the walls. Now, half of them took their stuff seriously... but none of them took everyone's stuff seriously.

A joking attitude is perfect in this environment. Don't know anything about art? So what? That's your angle. Don't fake it. Just because you can't use big words to explain your reaction to a painting/photograph/play/indie film doesn't mean you don't have a valid opinion.

As long as you appear somewhat intelligent, you're OK.

I met a couple of girls that night just by looking out of place and looking at the photographs. I just made sure not to make fun of any of them unless the other person did first... :trouble:

Also... it's my experience that the artsy types really don't favour guys who are artsy. Most of the attractive women I've seen/met in grad school or in the art community date guys outside of that environement.

Why? Because you don't make any money being a grad student or painting pictures. Those girls would rather date a guy who's in construction or something like that... someone who can pay for stuff while the girl does her thing.

Makes sense to me... I'd love to sit here and write all day, while my baby pays the bills...

every girl is different. you cant group them together just because of the music they listen to.

no you cant, however you can kinda look at someone and tell a little bit about them.

women that will be high maintenance for you will usually be dressed up no matter where they are, the makeup will always be on before they leave the house, their hair will always be fixed up too. if you see them often, look down and look at their shoes. how many pairs do they wear in a week and how clean are they?sure these ladies will have a sweet side to them, however they plan things out more than the others. they like to impress people, it shows just in how they dress.

then there are some that will never be dressed up no matter what, and brushing their hair is the best they wanna do, and they just arent into trying to impress anyone. lots of these women also dont care if they impress you either, its a take it or leave it kind of deal.

so then theres the rest of us who are average. we dress up some , we dress down some. we are the median here.

music varies , with so many different kinds, you have to look at music as it speaks to your soul, some is sad and some is happy and some is just fun,
but how a lady dresses usually doesnt change very much. sure a brand name will fade out, but a womans style stays forever.

True. Furthermore I think guys need to lose this idea that they can classify(or need to classify) a woman based solely on how she dresses, music, or her car. sure you can draw small conclusions about income or age. But not details about her individual character that are most important in a seduction. Rather than guessing on who YOU think she is. Try finding out who SHE thinks she is. You'd be suprised. Just my Opinion.

Maybe im a hypocrite because, the way a woman dresses does make a difference in if i decide to approach her or not. But to me it's more about her charisma and the vibe she's sending off. Also the way she carries herself and treats other people.

i agree with you however when i was single i noticed that men with clean shoes (brand new looking, not a scuff) were very high maintenance in my opinion.

Cuba isn't a socialist country.

Socialism is about the working classes (both white and blue collar) taking control of society and running it democratically to ensure production is for human need, not for profit.

The working classes don't rule Cuba, a Stalinist gang does, and they took power not in a socialist revolution but through a guerilla war based on the peasantry, which is not something Marx, Lenin or Trotsky advocated.

Besides Castro and co. only declared themselves 'communists' after their 'revolution'.

I don't think taking politicians at their word is a good idea. I mean, George Bush describes himself as a 'democrat', like, whatever

Finally, I do think the average person in the USA has more freedom that the average Cuban and I don't advocate a Cuban style system. However there are plenty more people around the world living on one dollar a day who are in countries allied with the USA.

And...last point... I thought this thread was about trying to relate to women in different 'scenes', whatever their politics or culture? I was talking to a dude who seems to move in similar circles and was trying to get some tips off him. I didn't post to start a political argument. If you like we could continue the discussion in another forum?

Hmm. From your excellent spelling, you're obviously not someone FROM Cuba, which maintains the best educational and health system in that region of the world.

Anyhow.... I'm Canadian, so I can say what I want... hee.
