To tell the truth, no. The owner was making money off of hookers posting and it would hurt his image if it was kept in the news any longer. When you basically hook up with anything considered immoral, someone will try to hang you out to dry just to push their own crap. But, I do not see how what happened is any different than when a guy met a woman off of either facebook or myspace and killed her. In fact, I can't remember if the guy in this case met the woman from the erotic section or the romance section. Either way, anything that gets men sex without going through the "proper channels" will get slammed.

The craigslist owner made the valid point that the yellow pages and also most newspapers have escort ads, too.
