I'm not very lucky lately. Software I get off mininova and other torrent sites seem to have this fake virus alert program.

Don't know its name, when I come across it, I reinstall my OS.

Anyway, program works like so, after you install your stuff, it starts annoying you, that your system had security threats, etc. Offers you Micro something program, and a link to register it, etc, etc, etc... Total Rubish!

Anyway, my anti Virus programs and anti spyware don't detect that crap! That scares the hell out of me!

I've used NOD32, Symantec Corporate Client, Spybot S&D, Windows Defender. None of those detect the damn thing!

The only way to find out if your program is infected is to install it and see what happens. Please help!

1. Maybe you shouldn't download this crap in the first place.

2. If you do. Use sandboxie: http://www.sandboxie.com/

3. When you are looking for an answer, then give details, like what it is called. I can't help you if you don't tell me exactly what is causing the problem.

AVG Free is the best free Anti-Virus.

Kaspersky and NOD32 are the best paid antivirus (I know because I'm into the warez scene and all that!). Send me a PM and I can get you them.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

More than likely its corrupted your registry, you will need to do a regedit and check what keys have been modified or damaged. I remember getting some spyware crap called winantivirus pro 2007 on my machine last year, it literally shat all over my OS, took me nearly a week to remove it.. Be careful what you download, even mp3's can contain viruses

What same things? None of them use the same "things" in any meaningful way, and before you start to argue realize that *I* have written core sections of several of those programs ....

ummm... okay? Argue? I could give less of a shit to argue... and give even lesser of a shit that you write those "things"... I call it "things" because I don't even care about what it's called.

I was just trying to help him find a good anti-virus.

The advice about not stealing software pretty much covers it.

Also, AVG-Free isn't that good, but McAfee, Trend and Eset (NOD32) are. http://housecall.trendmicro.com is a nice option for free, but it's not there as a full time safety net.

I've used Trendmicro for the past 5 years. Good AV program and doesn't lag the computer.

Had one issue a few months back where a trojan got on my comp and spammed pop ups advertising AV software. If you know the name of the software being advertised, you can google it and find manual instructions on how to remove it from your comp. And if that doesn't work, there's usually free malware removal software that you can run to remove the files from your hd and registry

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.
