Afternoon men, thinking of 2 weeks in America Instead of a UK summer holiday.

Daughter is 14 into cars or historic events, shes also majorly into music

was thinking route six six

or she likes the idea of the motown museum (Detroit Area ) obviously this would only take up a day of our holiday

any advice or thoughts

what would you all suggest?

New York is nice if you have the cash.

You enjoy beaches? Check out Florida.

You like live music? Check out Austin, Texas.

You wanna see some cool monuments? Check out Chicago.

Depends what kind of music. Each area has it’s own specialty. Jazz/Cajun in NOLA. Country in Nashville, Memphis & Branson MO. Still some grunge reminance in Seattle. Austin, Miami, LA & NYC. As for ‘historical’. Again. Depends on what she is interested in. Native American. European exploration, Colonial. Civil War….

All I am going to say is don't take her to Detroit. Can't imagine a worse place to vacation to even for a day. If you want to hit up Motown do it on the way somewhere else. There are some gorgeous places in Michigan -- especially on the west coast. Ludington, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, etc., are all great destinations in the summer especially if you are a beer fan/boating fan/fishing fan.

If your interested in seeing "hometown" American life outside of the big cities, Route 66 would be great. I live really close to it in Illinois, South of Chicago.

Remember. The main reason many International tourists visit the USA are the Parks. They really are a must.

Depending on what type of cars she is into, you might consider this:

There is a highway that runs along the western coast line of the US in California. Its called pacific coast highway(highway 1) where they have a big car show at Monterey. Beautiful area.

You also might check out the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Its probably one of the largest and world renowned.

For music, Austin Tx or Nashville Tn is where its at. Lots of bars and live music. Nashville has more music history and more country music. New Orleans, La also has a lot of jazz/blues music and a ton of bars. They also have some great music festivals. Lots of old cotton/slave plantations outside of New Orleans.

Boston, Gettysburg, and Washington DC(Smithsonian Museum) are great for American history.

If you like nature, Yellowstone National Park is the best.

There is so much to see in the US. WE have it all.
