I'm in need of a little advice here for a hairstyle - I thought I'd ask on the internet, you always get more opinions that way.

My hair is curly and really thick. I don't know if this is a stupid question, but is there any type of hairstyle that can be done with it? Here's my most recent pic taken yesterday

To the right.

I've been like that all my life, hardly ever used a hairbrush. So just wondering if there was a hairstyle that could be made with that kind of hair, just so I look a bit more "tidy." :D

Edit I forgot to hit the Anything else forum...feel free to move

While it doesn't look bad on him I dont think my hair can grow like that without looking like Tarzan.
My hair gets way out of hand when it grows.. already started getting out of place again thus I am cutting it on Saturday, but thought I'd ask here for some suggestions until then and find an actual hairstyle instead of just trimming it. Not that there's much you can do with this type of hair but.. :p

Get a #1 and get yourself a tan.

Either that or get your hair professionally straightened, then styled by a stylist. Take a picture of yourself, and take note of what was done to your hair, then go to a cheaper place, show them the picture, and give them instructions to have your hair styled to the way you want it for the next time you need some hair work done.

got same kind of hair as you do. so!

my advice? get a shaven cut (or atleast, short and equal) then let it grow.
do please brush it when you take showers.

girls like curly hair, atleast from my experience

i have curly hair like that, just not as dark. You can either cut it off and get a clean looking haircut and look like most guys or you can grow it out. I know some girls like long hair but most dont perfer it BUT when its curly and dark, alot of girls actually get jealous since most girls have long straight hair and have to do something to their hair to get it curly. Ive been growing mine for over a year and so has my friend(same type of hair) and since its gotten long we've found girls to either be very attracted by it or neutral about it, not alot of negatives. Growing it out will take over a year and youll go through some annoying stages but alot more girls will notice you (once its at a good length)

ok so thats my normal hairstyle anyways it was night so i'm not sure you can see it clearly.
i use it in two ways:
take out the knots in the shower and let it dry by itself throught the day. (looks kinda puffy but not way too big)
take out the knots and use some kind of conditioner or gel to keep it with a wet effect.

if i'm feeling crazy ill just brush it after its dry and it'll make a huge afro ( :D)

Time to visit a real salon. You will want to call ahead and ask for the manager. Tell him/her you want a recommendation for his/her best men's hair stylist - explain you have (what looks like 1" wide from here?) curls, so you want to book with the best they've got.

Once you have a good cut, you can do minor upkeep at a cheaper place, but still tip that master stylist well (shampoo person gets tipped a few bucks too, BTW) so you can go back there and they will always make time for you.

Often they will give you free vendor samples of the products they use, if you can't buy those the same day too. Or you can always ask them to write the products down for later and go to a wholesale beauty supply with your list and you can often find stuff discounted there.

I see where you're coming from but the same can be said for all hair types, each woman's taste will vary.

I think the girls who prefer the long hair type lean more on the pretty boys. Cutting your hair shorter can get rid of that pretty boy look. As a matter of fact I'm nearly 17 so I'd rather not go for the pretty boy type.

You can try super-duper gel if you really want to bring it down. My hair isn't curly, but it's rough, so I either wear a hat or gel it down. Otherwise it doesn't stay in one place too long (and will usually come down over my face). I've grown it pretty long too, so it looks good when it's slicked back. I'm not sure if you can get your hair slicked back (since it's curly), or if you even want to, but my point is you should look at styling your hair, be it through gel or cream or wax or whatever.
Yeah, wax can improve the look a little

The hair was shorter there but at least was nice and tidy. That's how I would usually get a haircut as usual.

this time I'll listen to the majority though and just get a trim. It's gonna be quite a change but it'll get used to :D

Heyyyyyyy slow down a little will ya ;)

While that seems quite..stylish..tis wayy too much work for a guy who never even used a hairbrush :D

Plus I don't wanna spend hours fixing the hair...I'll leave that to the women :D Thanks though

True, it does depend on your face. You try what i did and shave your head and keep letting it grow until you find a good length/look.
