Ladies back then were slimmer, likely dressed a bit nicer, and it was acceptable for propaganda photographs (like these girls) to overly accentuate their feminine qualities. These ladies likely prepped and were heavily coached on how to appear in these photoshoots.

However, back then, there was no "hookup culture" and you got maybe one or two chances for a relationship and you worked with what you got. And just like today, any lady who made it through any kind of photo op "propaganda" was top tier, you would have had to been a top tier guy to get those girls.
