Your skeleton takes up between 15-20% of your bodyweight

I can't find a source for the 15% but I did find the 20% on Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_skeleton

Hm. I scanned google real quick and a few quick descriptions stated that your bones take up over half of your lean mass. If what you say is true, then the calories burned definitely are MUCH higher.

***Edit. I totally misread the sentence. "Skeletal muscles makes up over 1/2 of the body weight in a lean individual." I scanned a little too quickly and missed the whole "muscle" part of it.

I've got a question though, do the muscles found in your organs also bun 5-6 calories/lb?

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

Well I think trying to count in the metabolic rate of organs is just overcomplicating the whole process, really. Unless you're just curious, I don't think it should be more than a passing thought, you know?

The Katch-McCardle formula is probably one of the best formulas out there...

BMR = 370 + (kg of lean mass * 21.6)

I've always heard 10kcal per pound of extra muscle, if you divide 21.6 by 2.2 you get 9.8

Yeah it was just a fleeting thought. Nothing to really get all worked up about.

It isnt EXTRA calories you are burning with your muscle. You had a ton of it to begin with. It's the extra muscle and the calories it burns you're adding if you're thinking "hey if i gain some muscle mass i'll be able to burn my fat easier."

It's just not a big number if you think of it relative to what you already have.... at least for the smaller guys which are most of us here sitting at under 200.

Btw fat also burns 2-3 calories a day per pound... so that lessens your calorie burning potential even more as you shed that away.

I am on the boat of bulking/losing fat at the same time. I'm doing it now.

It's worth noting that with your newbie gains packing on 10-20lbs of muscle your first month or two, you have the potential to increase your BMR by 100-200kcal/day. That's not a whole lot to write home about, but if your goal is fat loss, that's an extra 3000-6000kcal/month that you're burning.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Skilla_Staz and reyalp have the best answers in this thread; look at the big picture concerning calories burned through muscle without worrying how much they actually burn.

let me just say I found it fairly easily to lean down to a lower bodyfat and waist size once I had some muscle on me than when I didn't.

and guys, even an extra 100kcal a day is massive. that's by doing absolutely sod naff all. why d'you think big guys can lean down fairly easily without doing sheloads of cardio and just by altering their diet a little? (not that I like doing this but it works if you've got plenty of muscle)

WA, when it comes to solving a lot of problems in life, I tell people "get rich and don't worry about it." I say it sarcastically, because it's easier said than done, but it's true. In much the same manner, what I gather you're suggesting as a fix-all solution is "build muscle and don't worry about it." Would this be correct?

I found that organs (heart liver kidneys, brain etc) take up about about 60 percent of your resting metabolic rate.

What I mean is, simply, worry about getting stronger and eating enough/correctly and not about how many extra calories your kidneys are burning. It's really of little consequence in the big picture.

Man, I'm so glad you're back.

OT: Just out of curiosity, why'd you return?

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.
