Sometimes but not very often you might buy a harddrive that needs to be formatted before you can use it.

What exactly did the error say?

It sorta acts like the drive doesn't exist w/e i put on it wont open and i cant delete it.

Go to compmgmt.msc, initialize the drive and then format it.
