"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

If my memory is not shot, then this is my first post here so Hey to everyone.

Anyway, my girlfriend and I have been going out for about 10 months now. We are both 17. We started doing sexual things at about 1 month. A lot of fingering and handjobs for about a month until she finally let me eat her out(she thought it would be weird.. she had only given a hj before she met me) and then bjs came. This was all during the summer as I started dating her right before school ended. Things were great and I would make her *** around 3 to 10 times a day a good 4 times a week. I loved it and so did she. About five months we tried sex(for 5 minutes in her bedroom while her parents were home.. she just wanted to know what it felt like) In about the span of a month after that we had sex 3 more times.. Each only maybe 10 mins in her room(we never really have any time alone to have sex... bjs and stuff like that are much easier to stop if someone is coming) anyway, the last time was about 4 months ago.. which we almost got caught so that might be a good reason for the stop. The sex is not the real problem...for the next 4 months up there is a decline of sexual action happening. I usually "tuck her in" every night. We go to her bedroom.. lay there for about 30 mins until she falls asleep. Her parents let us do that and that is when we give bjs/eat out and stuff. But as I said.. there has been less and less of it. For about 2 weeks straight we did nothing and that is when I finally brought it up because I was contemplating breaking up with her. I told her that I missed the way it used to be and that it made me feel like I was doing something wrong(which it did). When I asked her if she was falling out of love with me and if she wasn't interested in me anymore she started crying and swearing that that wasn't it. After i kept pressuring her to give me a real reason for the stop(instead of the i don't know bs she was feeding me for the past 15 mins) she said that she doesn't want it to get boring.. that she didn't want to do it as much.. maybe once a week. OK fine, I can accept that answer. Two weeks past and it got better. Then back to nothing really. Now it's more like once every 2 weeks.. I brought it up again and she couldn't really give me an answer..she ended up saying something like "In 9th and 10th grade sex was all I could think about it and when I fell in love with you I finally had a chance to do all that stuff.. I think I just got it out of my system." Me = "wtf kind of answer is that... How do you expect me to go from doing things every night to once every two weeks... I love you and you are the best gf I've ever had but I just don't know if I can deal with it" That was about 2 weeks ago..Things are a little better but not too much.

I have two explanations for this. The main thing I think it is is school. She takes medicine daily which makes her fall asleep really easy(If she lays still for 5 mins when she is tired then she's out and she usually goes to bed for one or two hours after coming home from school). During the summer it was great. But when school started getting harder that's when the downturn started I think. We used to spend the time in her room doing stuff but lately she just wants to cuddle and go to sleep.. stating that she is tired. Knowing her, I think that is the main reason.. She is just too tired to think about it

Another reason could be that she feels guilty. I don't think this is the cause but she acts like it some times. Who knows what her friends or someone may have said to her.

I don't think it's another guy because she has never ever even given me a reason to be jealous and I know she still loves me because she wants me to hold her hug her kiss her hold her hand scratch her back things like that all the time.

I assume most of you guys will just tell me to break up with her but I've already spent close to 10 months with her and other than that the relationship is perfect. She is beautiful and I get along with her great so I don't want to break up with her over that.

Anyways, what do you guys think the reason is? Or what should I do about it. I've tried initiating stuff like that more and it is helping some but I'm not sure if that can fix it completely.

I appreciate any help that anyone wants to give, thanks for taking the time to read all that.

"Why Women Dump the Guys Who Try the Hardest"

You paid for dinner. You drove. You said "whatever you want is fine" every single time. All the effort, no expectations.

And she left anyway — probably for a guy who makes her pick up the pizza.

Painful. Also predictable. Her mind quietly concludes that anything requiring zero effort from her is worth exactly zero. You became a free sample, and free samples get taken for granted.

The 22 Rules flip the dynamic. Small shifts that get her investing effort, money, and time in you — until SHE'S the one afraid of losing YOU.

With my parents
tough...you've tried to talk to her and everything...

I guess you could try again, or just try and be patient with it...I really don't know.

If you're really unsatisfied and can't think of anything to do to make it better, than you have to dump her.

Yea.. I don't know what to do. Spring break is coming up. She'll get a break from school and I'll see if that changes anything. Guess I'll stay with her until I can find another girl worth leaving for.

It's not all about the sex man. It's OK to just hang out with your girlfriend too. She will like that about you. One week you should hang out... The next week you could do stuff... Just switch it up. Good luck.

finally.

something interesting to me... i haven't bothered giving advice to just anyone in this forum for a week or two now.

alright... so whats wrong with her? i don't see anything wrong with her but you pressuring her into doing "dirty, icky" things with you.

she's right about:
"In 9th and 10th grade sex was all I could think about it and when I fell in love with you I finally had a chance to do all that stuff.. I think I just got it out of my system."

her thrill of wanting to know what it was like is over.

it's like smoking at 16 and 17 and then when you turn 18... it's not a thrill to go out with your friends to smoke... or 21 to drink... it's just a normal thing when you're at the legal age.

before she was with you she wanted to know what it was like... and now she has... and now it's becoming a routine... and you're expecting it from her everytime you see her. slap yourself for that. that's your fault... quit making a 'good thing' into a 'routine'.

it's like a first job... it's fun and cool at first... but when you're there everyday... it becomes what it is... a 'job'

you want her to feel like she's just doing her 'job'?

---

go out more with her... you need to get a job if you don't and take her out to fun places... mall, lunch, movie... even if you do take her out... do it more often.

make her feel that you ACTUALLY care about her... keep it fun and new and not needy and desperate.

make her get used to that medicine she's on... keep her moving and on her toes... make her not fall asleep even on the medicine.

it's not all about snuggling, cuddling and sex.

"She Wants a Man, Not a Boy"

You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.

Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.

Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.

Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.

Quoted for truth. Sexual activity has become a chore to her. And the more you pressure her to do stuff, the less she'll want to do it.

Definitely get out and hang out more. While relationships do have a sexual aspect, the aspect of friendship and enjoying each other's company plays a larger role. The friendship is what pulls you through when things get rocky.

I think you all missed out on a fact... Don't know If I said it or not. Once a week would be fine with me. But there was about 2 months where we did nothing. And it's probably been about 2 or 3 since the last thing. I'm not pressuring her into doing anything.. I've just told her that it concerned me and I tried to figure out what was wrong. It just seems like an overall drop of physical attention and I can't figure out why

Has ANYTHING changed between you two since you were at it 4 times a week and now, aside from the obvious lack of doing something? If so, that is the cause.

The previous two posters said the right thing: It's not all about the sex. However, I think they missed a small point. If somethings changed, that could cause a problem.

Also, was she taking the medicine during the summer?

Yea I agree.. I understand their point but they do not realize that that is not all I'm thinking about. If we had never did anything at all so far I would still be fine.. I'm just worried about what has caused such a drastic change. I don't think anything has really changed between us... No big fights or anything like that. She has mild ocd and the medicine pretty much stops almost all of it. She was taking medicine for it but she switched a few months ago to another one.. Don't know if it was around the same time but it is possible that this could all be just a side effect. If so there is really nothing I can do about it. At least I know it's not me and our relationship is fine though If that's the problem
