Anyone drive one?

I love the Ford Ranger, but I hear it is going out of production in 2009 and car review people like Edmunds rip it apart saying the Toyota Tacoma, Dodge Dakota and Nissan Frontier are alot better.

I have a 97 Ford ranger 4 cyl, and it has 240,000 pounded miles on it... and the only thing I have done to it is..tires as required, breaks when needed, changed the timing belt, and right now I'm putting it's second timing belt on...

My truck has never skipped a beat, and doesn't blow oil or leak one bit...
Steering is still stout and tracks like a new car...

Not a bad repair record for that many miles and how much I pound the crap out of it...:D

I love my Ranger too, even though right now she is being a little hoe...
Oh well...she doesn't owe me anything....awesome little truck she is....

I don't, but practically every one of my friends drives a small truck (many of them rangers), so I often find myself helping them when something occurs.

I've never really heard any bad complaints, and all my experiences with them have been pleasant. Take what you hear from edmunds with a grain of salt, since I assume you're reading ratings posted by random internet people. Most people know jack-sh$t about cars. Rangers as a whole hold up very well. Definately good little trucks, and I'm a chevy guy.

I have a lot of friends with Rangers they seem like decent trucks. Have a lot of life in them

I love my tacoma man. It's a lifted pre-runner, quad cab standard bed. I needed a four door car to go with my compact sport, and i was tired of asking friends for help when i needed to get something larger (furniture, lumber, car parts etc etc) so i picked it up. It never breaks down and gets decent enough gas milage. Though I have to say my next compact will definately be an 4 cyl direct injection turbo desiel or something. 70 bucks for premium is far too expencive.

Toyota Tacoma's are nice trucks (atleast in appearance).

Edmunds.com rates the Tacomas and Nissan Frontiers very highly.

Apparently, Toyota is kicking Fords ass in pick up truck sales.

Japanese trucks are better built then most american brands. They out sell american trucks 3 to 1. This is the reason Chrysler and GM had to up their standrds over the last few years and now offer a lifetime powertrain warranty on alot of their vehicles.

I've got a tacoma too!! Love it...best vehicle I've ever owned. It's a lifted prerunner, extended cab, with a 4 cyl engine. I get fairly decent mileage too (for a truck). I typically get 22 mpg city, 24-25 highway.

I am a fan of Toyota (I currently drive a Corolla), but I would prefer to buy American. I would consider a Tacoma, but it seems like every other schmuck out there has one.

The Dodge Dakota is nice, but a little too big as I just want a compact truck.

I am not too crazy about the front-end design of the Nissan Frontier.

Rangers really are nice looking, but all the "experts" bad mouth them.

I would not recommend a Ford Ranger (or as I call it, the Ford Danger).

I had a '96 Ranger and it was always having problems with the sensors and electrical systems. The clutch also wore down prematurely (90k miles)

Funny that it's the only current production vehicle to score 30%-40% risk of rollover in an accident (NTSB) , because mine flipped going 20mph when the rear bumper caught a snowbank on an icy mountain pass after a spin-out.

I'd go with something like a Tacoma or Frontier.
