cologne expired?

i got a cologne from a freind he has had for a few years. It seemed weak even thou in reveiws online people have said its very strong.

I put 4 sprays on my shirt and less then 3 hours latter, a girl i know smells it and says its nice but that she can hardly smell it.

Can cologne expire after a few years so that it does not last long once applied?

Yes.

Exposure to light or heat will do that typically. I keep my cologne in a cabinet that no light goes into.

yeah there are oils in the cologne that give it its scent. exposure to heat/light will break them down eventually, in fact it may smell bad after a while.

i'd say 1yr-2yrs is the expiration on cologne, depending on where its kept. if i get two expensive bottles, i always keep one in the fridge

Try it on your skin instead of clothing. That might make a difference.
