If I'm correct cod liver oil is high in omega 3 oils, which helps your brain function better. Cod liver oil apparently also eases your joints. Hell, I take it, but I wouldn't call it essential.

i was forced to take that stuff years ago when i was young. My parents thought it would do something for me and my brother and sister.

I dont think it really did anything but give us a nasty taste in the morning.

That stuff was nasty.
