Cleaning Chrome Rims

I have chrome rims on my car that, to be honest, have never been as clean as they should be since buying the car (rims came with it). Brake dust is absolutely horrible on the front rims.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good product to get these clean and shining again? I'm thinking I am going to need something extremely heavy duty this time around, and then easy up and go with something weaker for more regular use. I just don't know where to start when it comes to which exact products to use.

I would try a dremel tool with one of the polishing attachments. Menard's has a generic rotary dremel for $20. The vibrating dremel would would well, too. I think Rockwell makes a cheap one for about $40. Dremel calls it the "Multi-Max." With a power tool to do most of the work, I think most cleaning products would work easily. Try a simple fine rubbing compound to get it clean. Wax the chrome after it is clean, and that will make the new brake dust easy to wipe off.

my SC300 had rims (before it got stolen) and my main car now has a pair of 19's on it.. honestly man i just take it to the damn car wash i don't bother with that. and by car wash I mean a ghetto/hood car wash not the chain car wash that half ass washes your ****. they can do a much much better job with all that than i can. the last time i tried to wash my rims they got dingy lol.

Then go to autozone and ask for mixture to clean brake dust and rust off your chrome rims. It should be in a spray bottle, A-Z Rims, or something like that for chrome. Use lots of this stuff first, then use the ball.

After all this is done use regular car wax to polish them up to a shine. Car wax even removes some rust.

The dremels have soft cotton polishing attachments. They won't even take off human skin. The rubbing compound needs to be very fine, though, or it can damage the chrome.

The poofy ball things are fine for dusting once the rims have been cleaned and waxed, but they won't take off the old tar and oil, or at least not as well as the dremel.

Simple Green is a highly effective degreaser and non-toxic at the same time if you want to use that to break through the oil.

Isn't that where you're supposed to take a car with chrome wheels anyway?
