He met her in mid 90s, just before things were about to starting to turn to shvt in the dating scene
In The 90s, folks were groaning over how much better dating/life more generally was in The 60s, 70s, and 80s. Now, we're nostalgic for a decade that
-Began in economic downturn
-Initially boasted crime rates that appeared destined to only skyrocket, before plummeting unexpectedly by '95
-Exploded into nationwide riots, after the Rodney King verdict
-Exposed the incompetence rampant within our judicial system on live TV, via OJ Simpson's trial
-Refused to leave renewed enthusiasm for military adventurism back in The 80s: The years between 90-98 saw The Gulf War, Black Hawk Dawn, a temporary occupation of Haiti, meddling in Yugoslavia... Blaming 9/11 almost entirely for the rise of the national security state is a gross oversimplification which rarely goes unchallened: We were already headed in this direction, long before The WTC was obliterated. The less said about the persistence of covert action all points south of the border, the better, during the reigns of both Bush I AND Clinton, the better
-Was plagued by persistent hysteria over teen pregnancy rates... Now, we're taking the piss out of the under 20 crowd for NOT having enough sex
-Saw the then First Lady and future all-around-pain-the-ass stand up on live TV, for the express purpose of "encouraging" us all to beware a tidal wave of pre-adolescent superpredators that was going to smash across our nation, in the very near future
-For a time, seemed to confirm the aforementioned hysteria, via events like Columbine
-Allowed Jerry Springer, Maury Povich, Jenny Jones, Ricki Lake, Montell Williams, etc to become household names and, in some cases(Springer, Povich)venerated institutions unto themselves. Hell, The 90s continued to supply the likes of Oprah and Sally Jesse Raphael with immense audiences
I could go on for several pages, listing the many seemy aspects of The 90s that we now ignore today. There are no "good ol' days" to return to, objectionable as parts of the present day are
