hey. Im only 14. I'm tryin to lose weight by doin HIIT every other morning before eating. I do it for about 15mins. Also Im lifting a dumbell every other day that Im not doing HIIT. Should I do HIIT every day? Also how many calories should I consume? Oh yeah and should I maybe eat something before I do it? If so what?

At 14 you shouldn't be doing HIIT at all. Do you realise how demanding it is when performed correctly? I remember a friend of mine - an elite level bodybuilder - who used HIIT before a contest. He did it for 8 weeks and started with just 4 minutes (yes 4!), he worked up to 15 minutes at the end of the 8 weeks and was in his best ever shape, and this was a 27 yr old guy who was already highly trained and in good condition.

At your age you should just do some moderate cardio - 20-30 mins - about 3 times per week and build a good aerobic base. Time is on your side. It is more important to enjoy your training and stay healthy. You can't just jump into HIIT.

You could also perform some light to moderate weight work and bodyweight movements 2 or 3 times per week focusing on technique.

Exactly, you can't just jump into HIIT. You need to cycle all-out sprints for 30 seconds. But on another note, you're 14. At your age, your metabolism should be high enough to keep you thin. All you need is to watch your eating habits and do some weight-training or sports. That should be enough to keep you both trim and muscular. When I was 14, I was so thin because my metabolism was so high. Too bad I didn't know anything about weight-training and bulking. Good luck.

If you've been physically active, you can get into HIIT. In fact, if you want to be good at football, basketball, etc., you should already be doing it.

27 year old bodybuilders aren't exactly the pinnacle of cardio-vascular athletes.

Nor would he need to have been but he never got over 15lbs above contest weight and was in pretty good aerobic condition.

It really is unnecessary for a 14 year old - a mere boy - to undertake HIIT. Furthermore, ANYONE without a relatively good level of fitness should build up to it.

When you say you're overweight, how overweight is it? What is your BMI? What is your weight and height? If you need to grasp for breath after running up several flights of stairs, then you shouldn't jump into HIIT.

WRONG... I was over 200 pounds as a 14 year old (not sure how far over, but I was 235 when I started accutane and like 205 when I got off it, if I remember right), and weighed 265 as a 15 year old. I am now 225 and my baseball pants from 8th grade don't fit anymore because they are WAY too loose.

Yeah, if this guy has a weight problem, he needs to hit it now. It gets much harder once you're out of high school.

Isn't accutane an acne medicine? Did you get it prescribed to help you lose weight or were you just using it to demonstrate your age?

Dude, you're probably an exception then. When you were 14, how many overweight kids did you remember seeing? Not too many I presume. Most of the kids were waffle thin. Heck, everyone is running around, doing P.E., playing sports, whatnot. I must say that with the obesity epidemic nowadays, thin teenagers may be much rarer now.

About the same proportion as I see of overweight 18 year olds nowadays.

bigforearms, I was on it to battle acne, but I had to completely change my diet around to avoid triglycerides going into the bloodstream and getting a heart attack while on the med, so I had to cut out all saturated fats and related junk food. That caused the weight drop.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.
