When I was working out a little over an hour ago I felt kinda dizzy and tired so I had to skip the abs. I took my temperature at it was 95.6F. So anyway I called in sick at 2:30 and my shift isn't until 5:00, but my boss seemed pretty pissed that I didn't call in this morning. Isn't two and a half hours a decent amount of time to warn them that you're sick? I mean people with 9 to 5 jobs wouldn't know until they wake up and unless they get up before 6:30 then there would be even less time. Sorry if it seems like I'm complaining, it's just that people getting mad at me when I already feel like sh!t is not exactly helping my mood. Have a nice day.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

the managers at those places are pissed no matter if u call in a week early or 5 minutes early.

u prob had a 3 hour shift and would earn $20 for it..

Walk in to work, sneeze on the food, and walk out again. Your manager will understand.

Besides, if its a fast food chain, you can't be fired for something like this. Let your manager be pissed. He probably doesn't care.

^^ sure you can. Most McDs have a high turnover rate on employees. I've seen people getting sacked for much less.

It probably doesn't make much difference but it's actually a 5-hour shift at a grocery store. I'm feeling better though so I'll probably work tomorrow. I have a 9-freakin-hour shift. SO DAMN BORING OMG. I just push grocery carts in from the parking lot and clear the items off the back of checkstands. Oh well.

eggnawgkid : unless you work for yourself, you will NEVER be forced to work as hard as you have to when you're 15-18. i worked at KFC and got yelled at and pushed and pushed.. in the real world.. its so much calmer.. and you'd be surprised, you wreck 1 batch of chicken, your f*cked.. yelled at and sent home. you wreck $5000 worth of product in the real world, you'll be in less trouble, as "accidents do happen" - do it regularly, your f*cked.

centaurion : you realise what a high turnover rate means? a high hiring rate.
its very hard to get fired from any job if you turn up each day and survive the first month..

Good point. I work as a lot attendant at a GMC Pontiac dealer. They didn't really get too pissed when I backed a Yukon Denali into a rail by accident, and one of my coworkers was driving a dealership Yukon and got t-boned by some dope in a Honda who decided to make a last minute unsignaled lane change when he pulled out (obviously the Honda driver's fault). That coworker is now a technician.

Some jobs are really laid back even as a kid, though. I worked a part time job at Target, and they didn't even get pissed when I slept through my alarm and showed up late. They were very laid back about pretty much everything. I had a grocery store job as a courtesy clerk though (same as the original poster's job) and he is right on the money about these jobs being nutty. The idiot boss I worked for got pissed when I called in sick an hour or two before my shift because I didn't feel good at school. I ended up getting a nasty flu, and then getting an ear infection while I still had the flu a bit later.

Turnover means the period spent between aquiring a good and getting rid (selling) of it. In this case, hiring and firing employees.

i do agree that most employers expect too much out of teenagers .
they yell and go off for no reason or for the slightest reasons .
i think alot of supervisors at fast food and grocery stores are either on power trips or mad that their teenagers at home dont do anything and take it out on their employees.

Next time show up sick and just go home early. Bosse usually appreciate the extra effort from employess who go the extra mile. If you're sick in a food service place, they'll probably send you home as soon as you get there. Lawsuits suck, and they don't want that drama.

correct.
you suggested he could be sacked for calling in sick. i disagree. But in the event that he does, the high turnover rate means there is just as many oppurtunities to join subway as there are to leave mcdonalds.

so if u get fired? who gives a damn. better then going into work sick, and causing urself a permanent injury or cross against your name for spreading a disease.
