I work in the airline industry, and unfortunately airports never close. I'm scheduled to work Christmas Eve, and had previously put in for a day off, which was denied. This will be the last year I'll be able to see my entire family together due to other circumstances, so it's imperative that I be there. I'm worried if I do call in sick there will be other disciplinary actions beyond the norm. It's been about 6 months since the last time I called in sick. Any thoughts?

Family is important, but so is paying bills. You have to decide which takes precedence in this situation.

If it were me, I'd find a way to be with my family.
