I think you've missed the point I was getting at: we have these perfect people in mind that we would like to date. Some of us (like this girl) will not bother with anything less. I didn't mean anything malevolent in the comment. Rather, more of an introspective question.

Another way to phrase it would be "why do I think that this dream person would want to date me?" Furthermore, she needed to hear something like that.
