US scientists have succeeded in reviving the dogs after three hours of clinical death, paving the way for trials on humans within years.

Wow, that's really cool! So this can then be used on humans in order to put their life on "pause" while the doctors can heal their wounds and what not, and then "resume" them when they are healed, which buys precious time during which the patient could have died.

Not to mention people that have an incurable disease such as Cancer or AIDS. They can be put in that hybernation state till a cure is found, then brought back to life and be cured. Or better, till the secret of eternal life is discovered. Uuuuu, the thought of that is really exciting. Ok, i am getting carried away

the worlds already overpopulated.
lets keep more people alive even longer, that'll be great for the world economy.

the truth is, people live too long as it is. but the earth has a way of sorting itself out everytime something like this happens.

Are they sure the dogs weren't just PLAYING dead? Cause my dog does that when I give him a treat or something.

But I guess the scientists already thought about that and have some method of figuring out if the dog is just playing.

I hope you're kidding. In case you aren't, well, those scientists have machines to see the brain activity and heart activity. When your dog plays dead, his heart and brain are still functioning...i hope! In any case, the zombie dogs in the article were declared clinically dead, meaning that they had zero brain and heart activity. DEAD!

True, we don't need overpopulation. Yet, i believe many people are so afraid of dying that they would line up at the lab door if this technology was to be proven efficient on human beings. I am curious as to how that problem could be solved...

It's a little hard to play dead when you blood is pumped out of your body. For the lazy, the blood is pumped out of the dog's body and replaced with a near-freezing saline solution (salt water). This keeps the brain and the rest of the body from being damaged by oxygen deprivation (because they are almost frozen). The dog is now dead. Then, three hours later, they pumped the blood back into the dog, shocked him, and he came back to life. Brain scans indicated that no brain damage occured, and the dogs resumed a normal life.

During the procedure blood is replaced with saline solution at a few degrees above zero. The dogs' body temperature drops to only 7C, compared with the usual 37C, inducing a state of hypothermia before death.

Seems kinda messed up, I'm sure animal rights people are going crazy about that.

There is another issue about bringing people back from the dead. What happens if they discover no heaven, no god(s) or no afterlife?

Would it mean the end of religion? Would more people start living for the moment at any cost with no fear of retribution in the afterlife?

I believe that scientists already know what lies beyond the grave, but it's top secret as to avoid mass panic.
