.avi in the DVD player?

Hi, downloaded an avi is there a way I can get this to somehow play in my DVD player? Some type of burning software?

I have a burner, blank DVD's, the .avi and a DVD player hooked up to my TV.

You shouldn't need any more info.

Not that it would even do you any good, DVD video is not the same thing as an avi file burned to a dvd.
