Master Don Juan
O my Lord, what's this world coming to?
Tonight I was at Home Depot trying to check out at the self-checkout aisle. The older woman there was having all sorts of trouble figuring out the price of my wood so I resigned myself to a long haul.
This other younger girl (very early 20s is my guess) was helping some guy out, a guy in his 40s. All of a sudden he starts yelling, "You're calling me a thief! and starts storming out. Then he comes back and squares off with her getting right into her face (half inch away) and saying if she were a man he would beat the sh!t out of her. He then proceeds to spit in her face.
At this point it looks like it's on so I get between them and tell them both it's not worth it. The girl (a very polite, nice, respectful girl, I might add) was crying and shocked as one would expect. The guy starts walking out with all sorts of threats (I thought he and I might get into it and I'm having back surgery this coming Thursday LOL). Two lazy-ass employees very tentatively walked out and I told them to go get his license number. They come sauntering back and I said, "Did you get the number?" and they said, "No, we couldn't see it. He drove away." I said you had plenty of time to get the plate number, why didn't you? And they just stared at me. I asked what kind of car it was - black Mercedes.
I ask the manager what he's going to do about this assault and he says, "Don't worry sir, we're doing an internal investigation". I asked two female employees how they feel about working at a place where no one will do anything if they are assaulted. I told the men to call 911 several times and they wouldn't, so I did.
So this female NYS b!tch of a cop pulls up and starts telling me I'm not supposed to call the police, that only the victim is supposed to call. Incredulous, I say, "You're telling me I was wrong to call the cops?" She defensively shoots back. "I didn't say that. Did I say that?" I said, "I'm asking you, not telling you anything." This girl was as nasty as can be... I mean down to the core nasty and defensive.
This went on back and forth for ten minutes. I'm telling her I broke up the fight, that I was directly involved, that we have it on video, and she keeps telling me "You're not supposed to call the cops, only the girl was supposed to." Meanwhile some male trooper shows up, I start talking to him and I could tell he understood the situation but he was definitely afraid of her. I ask him, was I not supposed to call the police? And before he can answer she's snapping at him, "Don't answer him. That's what he's trying to get you to say."
I'm telling her, "With all respect, I'm having trouble understanding your logic" and she was as evasive as can B....PD.
Finally the b!tch walks inside to talk to the employees (this is like 15 minutes later). The guy is just standing outside with me, helpless. I wanted to pursue it with him (as he was reasonable) but I kept thinking how I have a million things to do before surgery this Thursday and if I do my usual patent-applied-for "logic kill", I might get in over my head and have this to worry about before and during surgery.
So I declined to pursue and told the male cop outside I'll be out of commission due to surgery so that's where I'll be if they're looking for me.
I was quite surprised by all this on many levels. Some of my questions are, Why is it wrong to call the police when a nut job (he was very agitated and looked like he was going to pop her or me any second) gets a half inch away from a 20 year old girl's face and spit at her, then walks away with all sorts of threats?
And most importantly, why on earth, if this is a police investigation, did they not detain me and why did they want me to leave? The police couldn't wait for me to get out of there. What's wrong with this picture?
Does Home Depot have some kind of "special" relationship with the State Police? I have to wonder. Something is not adding up here.
Does this guy who attacked her have a special relationship with the police? He had what sounded to me like a Eastern-European accent. Is he a diplomat? These are all questions that I can't help but ask myself.
You guys know I'm no white knight. In fact, I'm 100% all for popping a woman who pops a man first. I get great satisfaction at women getting what they deserve, and that includes an eye for an eye physically.
But this girl was entirely victimized by this nut job and if he would spit in her face like that he sure as heck would have physically attacked her had I not pushed him off.
So what do you guys think? Was I wrong to call the cops? Any ideas why this whole scenario seemed so bizarre, and why they wouldn't have me stay as an official witness? Something ain't right here, boys. I'd love to get your ideas.
