Basically, they’re taking pictures of your information (who you are, where you live, what guns you bought, how many guns you have, where/when you bought them, etc. ).
As the title states, this is illegal. But why does it matter? It makes it easier for them to come knocking on your door in the middle of the night with 12 SWAT outside your home demanding you give them your guns. They can coordinate more easily when and how to take your guns, and they also break into your home and come take them if say you are at work, for example.
Now while some think that this is unlikely, we do know that Nazi Germany did the same thing before they went ahead and confiscated civilian arms. We also know that Democratic Britain did the same as well. Both touted it was to stop gun crime. Both countries only saw an increase in violent crimes after the fact.
