"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

I'm a long-time lurker, sometime poster who has gained a lot of knowledge from this site.

My question is if a women says, "At the very least, we'll be really good friends...," are you automatically trapped in the friend zone if she says it before you even have the date?

I met this woman who is definitely an HB9 (no kidding, she's 30, but she looks like that singer Fefe Dobson if she were all grown up). I just walked up and started talking to her near the CD rack at Best Buy. We had a good conversation that continued into the parking lot. She gave me her number, and I told her I'd call her. In response, she said, "At the very least, we'll be really good friends." This first encounter happened on Sunday, I waited until Wednesday to call her, and we set up a date for the next Sunday afternoon. The call lasted 5 minutes total because I didn't want her to think I had been thinking about her or anything...

We have a lot in common, but she is definitely a few inches taller than me. She isn't a loser like most of the women in their upper 20's - early 30's I've met around here lately (gainfully employed, a supervisor at her job). Other than her fascination with Eminem that she's mentioned at least 10 times since I met her, she's worth going after. I don't even mind that flaw that much; I told her I had some early Eminem freestyles on my computer, and she just about wet her pants.

Guys, I'm not trying to AFC internally here, but I just want some opinions on whether or not I'd be wasting time or money taking this woman out.

"Nervous Around Beautiful Women? There's a Rule for That"

I could talk to any woman I wasn't attracted to. Charming, funny, relaxed. Then a gorgeous woman looked my way and I'd become a sweating, babbling mess.

The fix took me years to find and ten minutes to learn. Nervousness and excitement are the same physical state — pounding heart, adrenaline, flushed face. Your brain just picks the label. And you can pick a better one.

Rule 16 shows you how. You feel the nerves, relabel them as excitement, and let that energy pour out as enthusiasm. Women notice the guy radiating it. They always do.

Give it a try. I don't really think she was putting you in the friend zone. The height difference probably doesn't work to your advantage, but if you have a lot in common, and can get that sexual attraction going, I bet you can more than make up for it!

Don't spend much money on her until you know she's yours. For now, just find things to do that are cheap and fun, and see where things go. Don't give her much of your time either, make yourself mysterious. Keep us posted!

I figured I would update this thread because the chick showed what kind of ***** she really was on Thursday.

We went to a museum gathering where they served alcohol at a cash bar. Big mistake. We got there, and she claimed she was afraid to walk up to strangers to mingle, so I grabbed her hand and walked her up to groups of people. She was getting more comfortable after the first round of Jack & Cokes we ordered, but by Jack & Coke #3 she ordered (using her own money from her own purse), all hell broke loose.

She said, "Hey, there's a hot guy, I think I'll go over and talk to him." I replied, "Hey, there's a hot girl over there, I'm going to talk to her." She left for a while, and I went over and talked to the girl (a hot mix of Asian & Latin, I can't tell what). Later, I hear some other girl say, "Hey, your date was looking for you." So, I break off from the girl I had left my date for, and go outside.

My date is standing there, having a smoke with some people. My date asks an Ethopian girl in this group about how she feels about the Live 8 concert, and the Ethopian girl goes on some tyrade about how Black Americans are lazy as hell. I'm the only American black person there other than my date, and I tell that comparing the two experiences are like apples and oranges. We agree to disagree, but my date completely seems to forget that I'm there. So, I start walking to my car, muttering "f*** this b****" to myself.

I get close to my car in the parking lot, and hear my date yelling my name. I don't look back until I get to the car, and as soon as she steps up, I lose it. I yell in my hardest drunken pimp **** voice, "I know you don't think that I'm going to let you come out hear and disrespect me!" A crowd gathers, and I called her a tramp-a** b**** in front of, oh, 8 or 9 strangers in the lot. I lost my cool, but remember, I was drunk.

Finally, I asked her if she found me attractive, and she went back to the "friends first" line, so I got in my car and left. A horrible end to a horrible night.

Thanks, spider. BTW, the guy she thought was hot was wearing a Polo shirt and khakis, and that really isn't my style. He looked like he stepped out of the Abercrombie & Fitch catalog, and even though I have to be conservative for work, I don't dress like that anyway. Ironically, I was wearing a blue Polo the day I met her, so maybe she just has a Polo fetish. Either way, I didn't want her to think that I was going to sit on my ass and wait for her to talk to him while looked like a f****** sad sack.

She revealed at one point that she was self-conscious about her weight (what I later called insecure to her in the lot), claiming that she felt like she was too big for me. I think that really meant that I was too short for her, since the DJ site has mentions of how women never want to look like heartless b****** when they might exemplify that exact behavior. I don't have a problem with being shorter than her, but I wish she had made that clear the first day I asked her.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.
