My opinion: Sexual promiscuity, if it can be accepted or hidden, is a net evolutionary positive for the cheater, albeit a negative for the cheatee. And the opportunity to cheat presents itself when there has been a divergence in the sexual market value of the parties, which of course is typically wifey's SMV going down relative to hubby's.
