Great story @logicallefty and @Travel memoir21 l. I would be curious to know about the state of hygene, access to toilet paper (ie you did not eat properly because you did not want to poo because its too filthy?), did any guy look try to rape you or extort money so as not to beat you up, etc...? Cant imagine how its like for someone on meds or exoeriencing hard withdrawal on meds because they are not getting them in jail. How about the smells? Did you have to be punctual? Were you roughed up if you were too slow for their drills? Did you see other people getting raped or the guards beating other inmated?

The environment where I was at, a county jail, wasn't all that bad. Clean, plenty of TP, and people showered a lot. I didn't have any issues with any of the other inmates, but some of the guards harassed me due to my beef with the deputies who arrested me. They didn't physically touch me, they were just d|cks. I was on an antibiotic at the time for a recent infection, and that was delayed. I told them on day #1 I needed it, they called my sister, and she brought it to the jail. But then they said it would need to be "approved" before I could have it. I didn't get it until day #3, the morning of the day I left in the afternoon. Again, I think they were just being d|cks and getting revenge on me on behalf of the deputies.

At least not as bad in the movies or some of the other depictions I've seen in the media. You are saying it wasn't all that bad, tells me it was survivable. I'm actually shocked. Really shocked you didn't say it was some third-world banana rupublic hell-hole full of rodents and cocakroaches and finding ants and spiders all over the place with stale pork sandwhiches and lousy food. with an overflowing toilet and feces all around including the sink. Sounds like you went to a hotel compared to some of these other descriptions....just a extremely boring. However, it's like a psychological torture since when you are used to a high-degree of stimulation, to just have walls around you, is hard on the mind so it ain't no picnic still.

Mine was only a county jail, not a prison. Some county jails and a lot of prisons are as bad as you say. I will tell you another one that will surprise you. In my county where I work as a police officer, the guards at our jail will let the inmates go outside to smoke if they behave. The guards will actually escort them outside of the building for smoke breaks. With no restraints. Pretty laid-back environment there. Unless you misbehave.

Alright guys here’s my story about my time in the slammer.
Was in my late teens and living with a girl in a rental house. A fairly modest older house with a one car garage. She kept complaining about the landlord because he had left stored furnishings in the garage.
I come home from work on day to discover the garage empty. Then she informs me that she had a garage sale.
The next morning we wake to the police, then cuffs, then the perp walk. Due to family being out of town and no available friends, I spent about 4-5 days in a small town mens holding cell. Only 2-4 others there, mostly traffic warrants etc.
The family attorney finally arrived when I was able to get hold of family. He informed me on my release that they didn’t have a case against me. I then went home, packed, and left for good.
From that experience, I learned fairly early in life that a woman can get a man into some deep trouble …

The worst part is when you get people who are legally innocent end up suffering in these deploarable conditions just because some cop threw them in and booked them on the system on a bogus charge. You could end up there, in your case for a few days to a week before things like that is cleared up if someone wanted to get you.

You got that right. The charges were dropped for me three months later. But based on some lies that she told the police and stuff that was fabricated in the report, I got my firearms taken away. It took me three years to get them back. I resigned as a cop from my current department. My former chief talked to another chief about me and said that this was such a tragic waste of a good police officer. The new chief said if I get my firearms back he will hire me on the spot. So after the three years I literally picked up my guns on Tuesday and was sworn in at my new department on Friday. My ex and the deputies who arrested me nearly destroyed me. But luckily I had a good enough reputation in the right places that I was able to recover. Not everybody is that fortunate. This is why I am so careful with my arrest powers as a police officer. I take them very seriously because I know how much an arrest can destroy somebody’s life. 100% empathy on that from me.

I don't know about Montana, but around here, if you get a speeding ticket and choose to contest it, you get a notice in the mail with a court date. If you do not appear, it will be deemed that you no longer dispute the charge and you will have to pay the ticket plus a nominal amount for court costs. I've never heard of a bench warrant being issued due to failure to attend traffic court. Seems like a completely ridiculous idea.
That's for minor driving offenses; for everything else, an arrest warrant will be put out for you.

Hi TravelMemoirs21,
Yes a hundred years ago,got involved in a Pub brawl at a Mates 21st...
Wallopers turned up and I got slung in the slammer...the cell was ten foot by six,Coconut coir mat on
the floor, barred window and a four inch pipe about a foot above the floor running across it
at one end pretty basic but as the pipe was warm tolerable...Being a Country Town the Coppers
Wife provided Breakfast which was Bacon and Eggs with Baked Beans a couple of huge slices
of buttered bread...Very Tasty, pity I was soo hung over...Up before the Magistrate at 11 Sharp
he was a cranky Old Buzzard but let me off with a caution duly entered in a big book...Discussing
the matter later with locals they reckoned I was lucky the Sargeants Grass didn't need cutting
as the Poor prisoners were down for that and another Day in the dungeons!

Im a CYA baby and did some county time here in southern cali. Kept it to my own and rolled with the southsider car. Had to have my head on a swivel with my antennas up just in case it cracked off with the blacks on sight. County jail is more grimy than state or the feds. But all good ran into some solids from my neighborhood. Mostly I read alot and pumped out 113s navy seals. Staying militant with the workout is mandatory

2 nights in the brig at age 15 in the Army cadets for smacking an NCO in the head with a pick axe
handle because they were giving me sh1t. He had me doing press ups which was a commonplace
penalty for more or less any indiscretion then thought he'd be a funny man and step on my hands
while I was doing them. Got up walked over to the Fire equipment station, grabbed pick axe handle
and whacked him in the side of the head, he just stood there as I approached him, I guess he thought
I wasn't gonna do it. Wrong. He went to hospital, I went to the brig. Was only me in there so no hassle,
was kept there until my parents came down to collect me and was ejected from Army cadets soon after.
Had a few minor arrests in my younger days but nothing that kept me in a cell for more than a few hours.

Land of slow.
Anyone here spent some time in Jail for a night or two?

I'll go first.

I was in the Military at that time, I was coming back from Wal Mart when I got pulled by a cop because he thought I was swerving around. I was sober at that time and passed his sober exam but he caught that I didn't show up for a court date that I was suppose to attend that week. So guess what? I spent the night in jail for something minor.

Saw Bubba, saw a bunch of strange characters, just a buncha weird stuff. This happened in Montana by the way, and the cop was former military and he was a good cop doing his job.

That finger print and mug shot is trap in the Montana record books somewhere.
Remember when it comes to being personnel it’s only a $5 training. I have both my degree and basic usmc training . This summer through surveys’ only made $90. Also one handpay from class 2 casino brought back $575. So in total from side hustle brought back like $824… was also cleared to work part time at local department store. When it comes to old bumble, tinder, etc.

Damn, looking back at 2007 (or was it 06) when I first joined SoSuave (diff name), it's incredible to remember the mindset I had, the hope, the excitement, the innocence and joy. I always loved this forum, and came back to it from time to time, but it's a damn shame I couldn't follow or remember all the lessons and advice I learned as time went by. Had a few serious relationships along the way of course, and um, the most recent one (from 2018) put me in jail 1 year later in 2019. I sat there in the county (and later prison for the last 1.5 yrs out of 3) and as I turned 30, 31, 32, (33 in a few weeks), each birthday felt as if I was awakening into a new phase of life - a phase that was supposed to have been my righteous proper life all along, but wasn't because of a few bad choices along the way and not listening to my heart (drugs, toxic gf, gambling) - and so the last 3 years were the most profound and elucidating years I have ever had, or at least that I can remember.

I was locked up for domestic, and she knew she did it on purpose, and by the time she felt contrite it was too late because here in California, the DAs makes sure that all men suffer, especially if a woman was involved. And thus no charges were ever dropped - I got blessed with a lawyer 10 months into my lockup thanks to a family member. Had to take a deal, and so I sat until September of this year, got out 2 months ago yes. Yes I saw crazy **** go down and there's a bunch I can write but I am not getting into that.

I have a new love for life. All I care about is focusing on earning money now and loving myself. You really learn a lot when you have to be isolated from the world and left with nothing at all but some books and barely enough food to get by. You become calm, and realistic, reflective of every single mistake ever made, and deflective of any bull**** that comes your way. You really know what counts now. If the actual experience wasn't so horrible, pathetic and dangerous, I would damn near recommend it (so just do this at home). It was nuts... my life now is, just, weird I suppose. I am at ground zero right now financially, but I am great mentally, and I am trying to get back up there physically, but I am extremely motivated to win now, at all costs. Women are pointless to be honest, and it's funny that I ever put them in first place. I love them to death, no doubt, but they will always be there for you when you really need it. Make no mistake, the most important person in life is YOU. And your freedom should be your ultimate priority in life.
