I recommend this site -

http://www.empirepoker.com/index.htm?wm=2205579

It has the worst players you'll find on the net. I'm up almost $20K since I started playing last year.

Enter EMP6461 when you sign up to get a 20% deposit bonus up to $100.

I do recommend reading this site -

www.twoplustwo.com

to hone your game and make sure your not one of the "donators".

Since i'm broke i play on gamespy with fake money, got 193 million on that b1tch.

Its also probably the only online place to play double draw and 7 card stud.

p.s: besides its fairly easy to cheat when playing online. three people with AIMs can rob the whole table.

If I'm goin to play poker, I'm headed right down to the casino and buyin in for my 80 bucks. There are a TON of rookies there who don't know the first thing about Poker cause they've won a few hands online.

My boy Vito just moved here from NY, didn't know a thing about holdem. Now the guys leavin tables up 300 after less than an hour of play.

Online poker is STUPID easy man.

People play like damn morons online.

If you play at a casino, it's reasonably more difficult (although there are still idiots). Same goes for house games.

The only time I really feel like I am risking my money is when I play in buy-in tourneys. You run into some sharks there from time to time.

I agree people do play like morons in on line poker. It's mostly because of the detachment from the game. It's just not as real as it is playing in person.

I do think however if you know how to work the psychological aspect of the game (and that's a huge factor in poker) winning in regular poker rooms is a piece of cake. Also a big part of it is knowing when to leave the table, but that's part of any poker game.

I dont' reccomend any newbies buying in a tourny though. Those things can go on for quite some time and I doubt a rook has the stamina to play it to the end with the fatigue and what not.

It is most fun to screw with someone's mind when you play with 4 and less people left at the table. I completely screw with people's hands - watch the U.S. Hold'Em championships if you can.

The asian guy that won the tournament - he plays like I do usually. Completely unpredictable and plays each hand completely different. He will strongplay an offsuited 8 2 and get people to lay down their pocket jacks and queens.

Pokerstars huh? I played there awhile back but found the games to be pretty tight - the players were actually decent.

I much prefer the loose, fishy games on Empire.

The online poker sites have gotten very good at spotting collusion - they can detect through their software when you are running a messenger program.

This in and of itself doesnt mean you are cheating, but if you are sitting at a table with 2 other people from the same geographical area that are also running a messenger program, they will catch you sooner or later.

ALso, if you happen to always be playing with the same two guys, they will catch on.

Colluding is not as easy as it sounds - sure your buddy may pick up pocket aces and you decide to help him out and juice the pot by raising even though you are holding 72 offsuit - but when the poker police review the hand history and see that you raised with 72 offsuit - the jig is up.

I'm alright at poker, play it often online. Not too much though.

Also, women love a good poker player:).

I will caution that is important to learn the game before diving in and risking your mortgage :).

The first week I played I lost quite a bit since I made the mistake of thinking that hold em was the same as the poker home games I played all of my life. Then I bought a book, learned about the game and have been crushing the online tables ever since.

I started out as a limit player but now play exclusivley no limit. If you are new to the game I recommend starting out playing small stakes limit.

The books I recommend for limit play are:

Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players by David Sklansky and Mason Malmuth
Small Stakes Hold 'em: Winning Big with Expert Play by Ed Miller, David Sklansky, and Mason Malmuth

For No Limit you should read:
Pot-Limit & No-Limit Poker by Reuben & Ciaffone
Harrington on Hold 'em, Expert Strategy for No Limit Tournaments; Volume I: Strategic Play

There are other good books but those will give you the basic tools to succeed right away.

Actually, low buy-in tourneys can be a real inexpensive way to gain experience. Some sites have monthly "freerolls" or tourneys with buy-ins for $1, $5, etc -

A few bucks for a couple of hours worth of playing time and a chance for a decent payout is worth it.

Personally, I prefer NL cash games because I can win more in less time.
