"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

Hi guys, I've been into this a while and I've kicked my ass so many times for not approaching a girl recently, as much as I would like to say it's not an issue, I have an issue with my height

I'm 5ft 5 , 5,6 in my boots. Just wondering if there were any shorties like me out there and if you have any issues with approaching.

As for looks I'm good looking enough i.e. I take care of myself, I come from a family of welsh powerlifters so I have a lot of muscle, I'm not fat tho size 30" inch waist bordering on a six pack but I have been bulking somewhat over xmas.. I digress, just wanted you to know I'm not ugly looking.

The crazy thing about this is I'm also the frontman of an up and coming rockband so you'd think I'd be good at this, alas the height issue has been ingrained from a young age.. I love the saying "change what you can, embrace whatyou cant" but I sometimes think that girls would laugh at me for approaching them if they are taller..

Any advice, anecdotes to spark me up?!?!

"She Wants a Man, Not a Boy"

You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.

Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.

Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.

Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.

I'm 5'6" and don't have problems. I get **** tested occasionally, but I bat them away like it's nothing because I'm unphased by them.

FYI, Decibel, who writes the PUA Field Guide, is only 5'4" IIRC and he gets women just fine.

FYI, I've been with plenty of tall chicks too. In fact my being unaffected to the height differential seems to win them over more so than short and medium height chicks.

Do you ever find yourself goin for tall chicks because of this? Do you ever bring your height up or not mention it?? I dont hate being short, I hate thinking its an issue!!!!!

"Why Women Dump the Guys Who Try the Hardest"

You paid for dinner. You drove. You said "whatever you want is fine" every single time. All the effort, no expectations.

And she left anyway — probably for a guy who makes her pick up the pizza.

Painful. Also predictable. Her mind quietly concludes that anything requiring zero effort from her is worth exactly zero. You became a free sample, and free samples get taken for granted.

The 22 Rules flip the dynamic. Small shifts that get her investing effort, money, and time in you — until SHE'S the one afraid of losing YOU.

There is a mental component to height that is actually more important than height itself. If you project 5'5" tall you will be treated like 5'5" tall. Unfortunately, most guys this heght are so self conscious of it they project 5 foot nothing and it seriously hurts their game.

The trick is when you are that height you need to "project tallness". I know it's easier said than done, but I have a buddy that's about that height and you would never know it because of his commanding presence and larger than life personality. You would think that he never in his life gave his height a second thought....

I'm about 5'8" which is actually closer to average, but I know where you are coming from. In the physical sense (and thankfully with women this it is much easier to circumvent physical attributes) every inch matters for a guy.

Most tall women are insecure about their height. One of the first things out of my mouth is "Wow, look at how tall you are." or something to that effect. It makes her uncomfortably aware about her height, and then I follow it up with making her feel good about it and frame it as a positive, how I'm fine with it, and then let her mirror my comfort. Poof, now we're off to a good start. I guess in a way it's a form of NLP.

This. I'm 5'8 and never thought of myself as short at all.

LOL that's because you are 5'8. Try being a few inches shorter where 80% of women are your height or above.

Anyways I don't even think about my height except for when height discussions pop up on the forums. My height only bugs me when I'm around really tall women 5'9+. I hate having to look up to see someones eyes.

All you can really do is try to look as good as possible and not worry about your height.

im 5,6 ok lol!!! I went out with girls that were 5,7 even 5,9. Height is not an issue unless you make it one. Besides why do you want to even stop yourself bro? Go do something about it and get rid of your insecurities.....

"Nervous Around Beautiful Women? There's a Rule for That"

I could talk to any woman I wasn't attracted to. Charming, funny, relaxed. Then a gorgeous woman looked my way and I'd become a sweating, babbling mess.

The fix took me years to find and ten minutes to learn. Nervousness and excitement are the same physical state — pounding heart, adrenaline, flushed face. Your brain just picks the label. And you can pick a better one.

Rule 16 shows you how. You feel the nerves, relabel them as excitement, and let that energy pour out as enthusiasm. Women notice the guy radiating it. They always do.

I know what you mean. One of my martial arts trainers is probably about 5'6" and has a very confident, commanding presence and I don't really even notice his height. Plus I know he can kick my ass in his sleep.

Another thing I notice too from the gym, is that a guy can be average height, but if he's buffed up and has more mass than a guy several inches taller who is lanky, I think the buffed up guy has the advantage.

I don't know if shortness is a problem so much as it is puniness. Now if you're abnormally short, like one guy I see at the gym who is probably 5' or less, then there's probably not much you can do, but that's very few guys who fall into that category.

LOL, talk about a coincidence. I just got a booty call from a HB 8 who's 5'9" because I didn't sex her last Friday (I was hoping to bang another chick at the bar crawl).

Thanks for all your replies guys, I have noticed that it has always been me stopping myself approaching because of height, I must have had a few comments when I was younger branded onto my subconscious.. Guess its worse when your wingman and best mate is 6'4" ha, but gonna make an effort this weekend to approach girls irrespective of if they are taller than me or not!!

Anyone know any smooth comebacks to any BS girls will give me about my height??

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.

I agree with STR8UP. I mean look at napolean wasn't he like 5'4 or something and look at the respect he got. I know one guy that he is about 5'4 and it hurts his game so much that he is always in the friendzone. I think it matters just how much is phases you. If you are really self conscious about it you will pay the price in the game, and if you aren't your game won't be phased. On that note i'am about 6'1 or 6'2, so I can't really say how it will feel to be in your shoes.

I am coming of the opinion that height is over-rated. I think men get caught up on height just the way women get caught up on breast size. They are great assets if you have them, but in and of itself, aren't going to make or break you. I guarantee you if it was as easy for men to get "height implants" as it is for women to get breast implants, half the dudes out there would be getting it done, in fact in China some doctors are now doing bone stretching surgery to make guys taller.

For men, it's the shoulder to waist ratio that gives you that "manly" look. I think that's more important than height. Hit the gym and put some bulk on your upper body. If you've got some game and a nice sense of style to go along with that and I think you'll be okay. Remember, it's achieving masculinity that's attractive. Height is associated with dominance which is a masculine trait, but height is not the only aspect of masculinity, there are other. If you don't have the height, forget about it and focus on the other physical and personality traits of masculinity.

I'm 5'8" and 5'9" with shoes. Average American man is 5'10" which would put me at low average. I seriously don't sit around worrying about this stuff anymore. I used to but I'm over it.

The Napoleon thing is a misnomer. He was average height for the times. IIRC he just surrounded himself with elite guard who happened to be taller. In 400 years people might think all celebs were a bunch of shorties and weaklings because whenever you see them in pics out on the town their cavalcade of bodyguards are huge by comparisons.

Thanks for the advice man,

My shoulder to waist ratio is fine I'm not like a 5ft 5 guy with a big head, you know the look I mean?.. I'm in proportion, just short.. I'm pretty buff I've been training heavy for about 7 years and I get asked about my training and diet from guys in the gym often.

I had a bit of an epiphany last year I realised I was a 28 year old boy and I hadnt grown up, so I took a lot of steps to change my life, I've slowed a little at the moment but I'm still there. Since splitting with my ex I've concentrated on my music career which to be honest is flourishing. In effect I've kinda cut off chicks.. But I dont wanna, I just want my music to come first.. which is where I am now!! I miss all the stuff of a relationship but I dont want one.. I'm trying to live by the pook motto live, laugh, love..

By the sounds of it after a think and your comments I know I can do it, heck my 1st 2 girlfriends were beauty queens of my town (I know it sounds shallow) but I'm trying to validate myself..

I'm seriously up for this weekend, I'm out with my ex flatmate (who before his girlfriend was a chick magnet) and we always worked well together, not necessarily pulling the chicks just the confidence to wind them up and mess with them..

Thanks guys  , hey if you wanna listen to my band we are on myspace www.myspace.com/thegoodthingsuk - nice plug ay..:D
